Location:  This role will initially be based in Bradford but we’re moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future, however county wide travel will be required at times.

 

 


Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Highways team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. 

 


The role reports into the wider Water Services Directorate and sits neatly into the Operational Contracts team. Health and safety is at the heart of everything we do. The role of the SFO is pivotal to ensure our ironworks remain compliant to keep pedestrians and roads users safe. Our team is small but fantastic, we all pull together to help each other on a daily basis, being a team player is an absolute must.

As our Street Furniture Officer you will:

 


•    Respond to defective street furniture reports from Customers, Highway Authorities and YW colleagues.  Manage inspections in a timely manner and attend within priority.


•    Comply with NRSWA legislation and always work safely and keep the public safe. Adhere to YW safeguarding rules.


•    Assess defective street furniture and take any action which is necessary to reduce danger to the public, make sites safe where possible and safe to do so, arrange Partner make site safe measures if applicable.


•    Use innovative solutions wherever possible e.g. drop in lockable lid, recycled lid - no dig solutions contribute to the company strategy of carbon reduction etc.


•    Promote the use of specialist mortars etc where relevant.


•    Provide good quality videos & photographs  via the YW FYLD App for Street Furniture Inspections & ensure accurate feedback on SAP.


•    Undertake surveys on streets which are being resurfaced by Highway Authorities and make arrangements with Partners and Highways Authorities for correct lids to be provided in line with required timescales.


•    Contribute to regular Partner performance meetings.

 

 


What skills & qualifications you will need:

 

•    A sound knowledge is required in relation to Street Furniture and Streetworks.


•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with good IT skills.


•    Able to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships.


•    Clearly demonstrates the Yorkshire Water company values and behaviours.


•    A great understanding of Health and Safety policies, procedures and good practice when working in the highway.


•    Full driving license.

 


You will also benefit from having:

 


•    NRSWA Signing, Lighting and Guarding - (O1) – Operatives.


•    NRSWA Signing, Lighting and Guarding Course - (S1) – Supervisors.


•    Previous experience within the street works industry, water or wastewater industry or within the broader utilities.


•    Knowledge of New Road And Street Works Act and Traffic Management Act.


•    The Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings and Excavations in the Highway Department Of Transport Code of Practice.


•    Safety of Street works Code of Practice (Red Book).


•    Co-ordination at Street works Code of Practice.


•    Highways permitting Schemes.
