Location: Flexible across the Yorkshire region / Hybrid Working

We have an exciting opportunity for a Assurance Engineer to join the Water Service Delivery at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Water Service Delivery are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. 

The Assurance Engineer will provide expert retrospective analysis of supply interruption events to fully understand and articulate impact upon customers and compliance on the water network. Undertaking engineering and hydraulic analysis of event impacts and a critical analysis of incident response to help build both tactical and process controls to mitigate the risk of future failure.

The Assurance Engineer will carry out the Annual Performance Reporting process for supply interruptions, and enable the company to maintain a high level of assurance and compliance with the regulator.  The role will deliver world class asset and operational excellence across YW assets, in pursuit of health and safety excellence; regulatory compliance; operational efficiency and business plan outperformance.

Where you fit in:

As our Assurance Engineer you will

• Take personal responsibility for health & safety, risk management, and control of work, ensuring compliance with YW policies. Challenge unsafe practices and prioritize safety during water network incidents.
• Complete detailed network failure reports with hydraulic and engineering analysis, including calculations to assess property impact and event duration.
• Critically analyze events to identify root causes and opportunities for improving incident response and operational performance.
• Prepare comprehensive reports detailing event impact, timelines, actions, and customer minutes lost, ensuring alignment with internal and external assurance frameworks.
• Apply hydraulic calculations and modeling to identify risks, assess system limitations, and drive operational improvements, including critical link analysis.
• Liaise with stakeholders across Source to Tap processes to ensure holistic analysis and informed decision-making.
• Contribute to supply interruption governance and annual audit submissions, supporting compliance and assurance efforts.
• Promote quality management systems, conduct root cause investigations, support colleagues with engineering expertise, and ensure risks are managed through Yorkshire Water’s systems.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

• Fully understand H&S requirements related to water network operations, including highway work, confined spaces, and lone working.
• Strong grasp of regulatory targets, service performance, and risk analysis within Water Networks.
• Skilled in hydraulic calculations and modelling to assess network failures and mitigation strategies; knowledgeable about all water network assets.
• Awareness of how asset operation and condition affect water quality, ensuring safe and compliant service delivery.
• Proven ability in data analysis and manipulation; experienced in using Yorkshire Water’s corporate systems (e.g., SAP, AI2, Odyssey, Netbase).
• Deep understanding of potable water distribution design and operation principles; meticulous in analysis and reporting.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills; able to build effective relationships and influence at strategic levels.
• Self-motivated, decisive, resilient under pressure, committed to continuous improvement, and proficient in Microsoft Office tools.

• Able to understand where your role fits within a Business Plan and develop ways to deliver the outputs required
• Experience of supporting and embedding change, able to influence and drive the right culture and behaviours
• A minimum of, or to be working toward an HNC in an engineering or related qualification
