Following our success in achieving a 15% leakage reduction target in AMP7, OFWAT has awarded us additional Enhancement funding for AMP8 to deliver a further 12% reduction. This ambitious goal will be achieved through a blend of proactive, reactive, tactical, and sustainable solutions, all governed through our AMP8 Leakage Enhancement Programme. Pressure Management is a key enabler in this journey—helping to reduce bursts, improve asset health, and maintain stable network performance. By adopting cutting-edge technology, we’re moving towards autonomous control of valves and pumping stations, ensuring consistent pressure management day and night while remaining responsive to network events.
We’re now looking for a Technical Specialist to join our Pressure Management team within the Strategy, Planning & Investment department. As part of a team of four, you’ll lead investigations across the clean water network, identifying opportunities to reduce leakage in both Upstream and Distribution areas. You’ll collaborate with Asset Planning, Capital Delivery, and Service Delivery to implement Smart, Calm, Resilient solutions. The role also involves supervising third-party contractors and consultants, influencing infrastructure optimisation, and helping to reduce ODI impacts across the network.
Where you fit in:
As our Pressure Management Technical Specialist you will
- Act as the technical lead for Pressure Management across Yorkshire Water’s clean water network.
- Identify and deliver innovative, smart solutions to optimise pressure and reduce leakage.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to bridge IT/OT and physical infrastructure, driving transformational change.
- Lead investigations into asset reliability and failure, delivering operational and capital solutions to enhance performance.
- Develop and implement smart control strategies using emerging technologies like IoT and cellular communication.
- Design and deliver Smart & Calm Network solutions to improve system resilience across Yorkshire.
- Support the company’s journey to increase smart maturity in line with AMP8 Business Plan targets.
- Supervise contractors and consultants, ensuring benefit tracking, KPI reporting, and value-driven delivery of pressure optimisation schemes.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- Full UK Driving License
- Degree Qualified in relevant Engineering discipline such as Civil/Mechanical Engineering or relevant Engineering experience
- Significant experience of creating and implementing Pressure Management & Smart Network Solutions
- Experienced in YW suite of software (Netbase/Ai2/GIS/SAP/AIB/EDMS/IMS)
- Experience in the Water Industry and particularly Water Distribution.
- Ability to work with autonomy and make operational decisions
- Ability to influence, challenge and manage expectations of external stakeholders
