The Senior Leakage Inspector will provide advanced technical leakage support to the Area Leakage Team, taking responsibility for managing and resolving complex leakage issues using specialist techniques such as step testing, PZTs, integrity testing and meter accuracy validation. The role includes mentoring and training team members in support of their development plans, while also acting as operational support to the Area Team Leader and serving as a key point of contact in their absence, with responsibility for leading PEX and performance hubs when required. The postholder must communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and with key stakeholders, and will also be expected to support health and safety activities, including site visits and vehicle audits.

As our Senior Leakage Inspector you will;

 

 

  • Provide an advanced level of leakage investigation support to the Area Leakage Team, including self-generating workload by identifying problem DMAs through the effective use of corporate systems.
  • Specialise in complex leakage activities such as DMA optimisation, step testing, zone integrity testing, pressure logging, correlating logger deployment and interpretation, and leak detection in problem DMAs.
  • Lead meter exchange and maintenance activities across DMA, commercial and domestic meters, including logger and pulse unit installation and upkeep.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with service partners and key stakeholders across the business to drive efficient leakage reduction and minimise leak life.
  • Support the Area Team Leader by deputising when required, assisting with performance activities, procurement of tools, equipment, PPE and clothing, and leading where appropriate.
  • Take ownership of customer related issues and complaints, liaising with key contacts and service partners to see issues through to resolution.
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety requirements, including POWRA processes, personal safety device usage, vehicle inspections, H&S site visits, vehicle audits, and the creation and approval of WAND risk assessments.
  • Act as a senior member of the leakage team by mentoring, training and upskilling colleagues, promoting cross team working with Field teams to enhance overall network knowledge.

 


What skills & qualifications you will need:

 

 

  • Passionate about delivering excellent customer service, with a strong commitment to meeting challenging performance targets safely and efficiently.
  • Extensive knowledge of the water network, leakage techniques and technologies, with advanced capability in using and fault diagnosing leakage equipment.
  • Proven ability to use initiative to identify, resolve and overcome operational issues, demonstrating Yorkshire Water values and behaviours at all times.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience engaging effectively with key stakeholders at all levels and working collaboratively within teams.
  • Competent IT user with experience in Netbase, SAP, Advantex and Microsoft Office, alongside a willingness to learn and embrace new systems and technologies.
  • Relevant industry experience and qualifications, including previous leakage or networks experience within the water industry, NRASWA and Water Hygiene certifications, completion of WAND risk assessments, a full clean driving licence, and flexibility to work unsociable hours.

 

You will also benefit from having:

 

  • Ideally qualified to NVQ Level 3 in Leakage, with an NRASWA Supervisor qualification and a strong understanding of repair techniques and pressure management.
  • Strong IT capability, with working knowledge of leakage related systems including Netbase (water balance, campaigns, flow, pressure and reporting).
  • Sound technical understanding of water hydraulics, alongside awareness of advancing technologies and innovations within the leakage industry.
  • Good knowledge of legislative requirements, including the Water Act and Competition Act, to ensure compliance in operational decision making.
