What we do:

Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year, can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it’s so much more than this.

We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire’s water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry.

The Education team are a small close-knit team of nine, who are passionate about delivering a first-class education programme.  You’ll have the opportunity to work with colleagues within and outside our Education & Engagement team, whilst supporting key stakeholders across the business.

Our education programme delivery dates are set in advance during term time, and you would predominately be working on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday either in centre, or on our outreach programme.  There will be opportunities to work from home occasionally to complete administrative duties or online training.  We pride ourselves on being a flexible team meeting the needs of all our customers.

Where you fit in:

As our Education Advisor you will offer a Yorkshire welcome to our diverse range of visitors and deliver an exceptional visitor experience in an engaging, informative style primarily through on-site visits and our ‘in-person’ & virtual outreach programme. You will be teaching the visiting public about the value of water and the essential role Yorkshire Water provides in delivering water and wastewater services.

We will train you to use our specially designed education centres and to lead tours of operational treatment works, allowing you to provide a ‘behind the scenes’ perspective.  Alongside visits to our education facilities, you will help deliver our educational outreach programme, both in school and via virtual live lessons.  Our audiences are predominately school groups at Key Stage 2, but we also engage with groups of all ages and interests.

You will be highly organised and confident in using a range of IT systems, particularly previous experience of using Microsoft Office software.

You will have great interpersonal skills, be friendly, approachable and have a “can do” attitude. You will be able to build up effective relationships at all levels and adapt your communication style to suit all learning styles, including students and visitors with special educational needs.
