We are seeking a highly experienced Water Asset Planning Senior Sponsor to join our team and help us in our mission to provide safe, reliable and affordable water resources and treatment assets which are optimised for Capex/Opex, Operational and Asset Risk. You will be responsible for supporting a team of Asset Planning Sponsors in assessing risks and managing escalations while working closely with Contract Partners to develop, manage and deliver exceptional quality projects in line with our SBO's and Performance Commitments.

As our Water Asset Planning Senior Sponsor, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective management of asset risks, regulatory compliance, and the delivery of business needs. Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Support and direct a team of Sponsors to manage asset risks, ensuring regulatory compliance and delivering the needs of the business.
  • Provide technical advice to Sponsors on aspects of phased or agile delivery of schemes. Oversee accountability for the delivery of agreed benefits identified at approval, including sign-off of benefits realization.
  • Work with Service Delivery colleagues to identify and manage emerging risks that could impact performance commitments (PCs), operational delivery indicators (ODIs), and Yorkshire Water's strategic business objectives (SBOs) within the TOTEX environment.
  • Coordinate and lead communication between Asset Management and Operational Service Delivery teams regarding solutions across the Clean Water capital programme. Ensure excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management, and control of work, in line with company values and behaviours.
  • Drive exploration of alternative technologies for schemes, ensuring risks are balanced on whole life cost, carbon, and other six capitals benefits.
  • Provide financial awareness of the Asset Management Plan (AMP) and regulatory frameworks. Understand the position and role of Clean Water Asset Planning in delivering company risk management plans.
  • Liaise with Design Guidance and Engineering Specification owners to support Collaborative Project Teams in consistent decision-making on schemes.
  • Support the development of Clean Water Asset Planning strategies to meet Yorkshire Water's strategic business objectives.
  • Your role will be integral to ensuring that operational teams understand the scope and benefits of projects, and that completed works are safe and reliable to operate. You will also be accountable for the realization of desired outcomes and benefits from investments, providing a governance link between the organization's senior leaders and project management.

 

What skills & qualifications you will need:

 

  • Experience in an operational and/or strategic leadership role within a commercially oriented and/or regulated environment.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of clean water treatment processes and raw water assets.
  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining key internal and external relationships.
  • Technical and asset management experience in clean water treatment, or a minimum qualification of HNC level or equivalent in an appropriate engineering/science-related discipline. Holding or working towards chartership in asset management or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong project management experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Clear and effective communication skills at different internal levels, helping to support and embed change, drive the right culture and behaviors, and manage relationships with consultants and contract partners.
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements within the water industry.
  • Ability to manage budgets, understand financial reports, and make informed decisions based on financial data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and implement changes effectively.
  • Ability to drive innovation and adapt to new technologies and methodologies to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Understanding of environmental impact and sustainability practices, with a commitment to protecting the environment.
