Water Resources North (WReN) is one of five regional water resource groups in the UK, focusing on the sustainable and coordinated planning of water resources. We work across various sectors, including public and private water supply, to ensure long-term water resilience for the North of England, addressing challenges such as climate change, population growth, and evolving industrial and agricultural demands.


 

The Opportunity


 

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Agricultural Sector Lead to guide the integration of agricultural sector needs into our regional planning processes. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction at the highest levels of decision-making within WReN, collaborating closely with other sector leaders, water companies, and stakeholders.

 
 

Where you fit in:

 

The Strategic Agricultural Sector Lead will:

 

  • Develop a strategy and action plan to incorporate agricultural needs into WReN’s regional water resources plan.
  • Represent the diverse agricultural sectors, from arable to livestock and horticulture, ensuring that all interests are considered.
  • Sit on key WReN committees and working groups, including the Strategic Delivery Group (SDG) and the Stakeholder Advisory Group (SAG).
  • Oversee projects impacting the agriculture sector, such as PWS abstraction changes and the development of Water Abstractor Groups (WAG).

 

What skills & qualifications you’ll need:

 

  • Extensive experience in the agricultural sector, preferably in a senior or advisory role.
  • An understanding of the technical challenges and opportunities facing agriculture in the region.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and strategic planning.
  • The ability to represent the agricultural sector independently and objectively.
