Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but we’re moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future - Hybrid Working typically 1 office day a week plus site visits.
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

The Energy Projects team sits in Kelda, the parent company of Yorkshire Water, and is part of the wider Commercial Services Team. The team is accountable for delivering energy projects to meet the businesses’ aim of achieving 40% self-generation by 2030 whilst supporting the wider businesses targets around EV deployment, power resilience and heat recovery / use. This is achieved by delivering new assets and optimising existing assets. The team also support the wider business with exciting and innovative projects leveraging more value out of our assets and raw materials and waste products. The wider department is accountable for commercial and contractual arrangements across the supply chain and to deliver leading and world class contract management processes.
Where you fit in:
As our Solutions Development Engineer (Renewables) you will:
- Provide electrical engineering expertise to support the development and delivery of renewable energy and other energy-related projects.
- Act as the primary liaison between project delivery teams and Group Engineering functions, ensuring effective communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop comprehensive engineering work packages and delivery scopes for handover to project delivery teams, providing ongoing technical support to delivery teams and EPC contractors to facilitate the successful integration of new assets.
- Identify and implement opportunities to optimise construction methodologies, improve efficiency, and reduce project costs.
- Prepare, submit, and manage new and amended grid connection applications, ensuring compliance with regulatory and network requirements.
- Support Project Managers in monitoring EPC contractor performance, ensuring construction activities are delivered safely, achieve project milestones, and meet required quality standards.
- Conduct site inspections and audits as required to:
- Verify adherence to site standards and proactively implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure construction activities are carried out with minimal disruption to operational performance, productivity, and quality.
- Monitor compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. - Produce detailed site visit and audit reports for both active construction projects and future development sites.
- Represent the engineering team in strategic initiatives, including electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure deployment and power resilience programmes.
- Attend and support commissioning, testing, and energisation activities to ensure successful project completion and asset handover.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- 5 years proven experience delivering energy-related projects, ideally within a regulated environment, with a strong background in renewable energy project development and delivery.
- Qualified to HNC, HND, Degree level, or equivalent in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Completed, or able to work towards, High Voltage (HV) Authorised Person status through a City & Guilds accredited provider or equivalent certification.
- A strong understanding of construction methodologies, materials, and industry best practices associated with energy infrastructure projects.
- Sound knowledge of electrical infrastructure, power systems, and the integration of new assets into existing networks.
- A good understanding of the UK water industry, including relevant regulatory requirements, engineering standards, and operational considerations.
- Demonstrated experience supporting the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of energy-related projects through EPC contractors and delivery partners, while maintaining high-quality outcomes.
- Working knowledge of relevant health, safety, environmental, and quality legislation, standards, and regulations.
- The ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, specifications, schematics, and contractual documentation.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Relevant qualifications in construction management, engineering, or a related discipline are desirable.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced project environment.
