The Engineering Teams (including the Electrical Engineering Team) are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.   

 

As a Solution Development Engineer (Electrical Engineer) you will become a key member of the Electrical Engineering Team, a team delivering Electrical Engineering expertise and specialist services across the business across a vast range of assets.  As a member of the Electrical Engineering Team you may find yourself working on assets ranging from small power and lighting to generators and complex variable speed drives working at voltages up to and including 11,000V. You may be supporting one of the many Capital Schemes, investigating incident, supporting High Voltage or Low Voltage Inspection Services, developing specifications and policies or assessing the competence of electrical staff, partners or service providers.

 

The Electrical Engineering Team sits within the Engineering Section within the Asset Delivery Business Units.  The Asset Deliver Function provides a central engineering and project management services across the company ranging from project managing multi-million pound projects, central engineering advice to complex maintenance and central stores and logistics

 

Where you fit in: 

 

As our Solution Development Engineer (Electrical Engineer)

 

  • Provide electrical engineering standards and policy support in way of the development of the Engineering Specifications, Safe Systems of Work, Policies, WIMES and Design Guidance
  • Provide technical expertise and knowledge within the electrical discipline to lead or support on proactive and planned technical, engineering and investigations to develop detailed solutions
  • Provide the technical knowledge and expertise to lead or support on follow-up Standard Investigations (SIR) for pollutions, equipment, asset and process performance shortfalls and provide planned support for Low and High Voltage switching activities for capital partners and our Service Delivery business unit
  • Provide technical support to the Business in way of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations following incidents and failures of process equipment and assets and draw up detailed delivery scopes of work as an output of the engineering performance investigations
  • Be responsible for developing robust engineering work packages/delivery work scopes which will be transferred to a delivery team
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to team members to support the transfer of specialist knowledge and succession planning within Yorkshire Water

 

What skills & qualifications you will need: 

 

  • HNC/HND Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Previous experience in developing and writing engineering standards and specifications. In addition, you will have previous experience of developing engineering solutions and incorporating these into a work package/specification for delivery
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts/strategies into more readily understood information suitable for a wider business audience and be able to influence people across multifunctional teams throughout the business
  • Previous data management experience and you will have strong analytical skills, be proficient in IT as you will be using a range of Company IT systems, Microsoft Office including Word and Excel and Office 365
  • You will have the ability to engage with customers internally and externally, developing and maintaining strong positive business relationships in order to understand their needs and recognise opportunities

 

You will also benefit from having: 

 

  • Completed or be capable of working towards a HV Authorised Person course with a City & Guilds registered provider or equivalent
  • Membership (or working towards membership) of a recognised Engineering Institution at Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status
  • Plant optimisation and reliability engineering experience
  • Previous experience in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and can use these techniques in equipment failure investigations
  • Asset management experience within a large-scale engineering or process-related industry
