Location: Bradford, Buttershaw - typically 1 day in the office/week – with extensive travel around the YW region to operational and office sites.

 

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

The Engineering – Civils Team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.  

 

The Engineering – Civils Team forms a part of Asset Delivery and consists of a Principal Engineer for the discipline and a small group of Civil Engineers. Our work includes: 

 

  • Undertaking planned inspections of all civil asset types.
  • Providing a reactive response and assurance service to civil related issues identified by the Operational Teams.
  • The planning, implementation and site supervision of both intrusive and non-intrusive investigation works to support and enhance the inspection process.
  • The planning, implementation and site supervision of small-scale civils delivery schemes.   

 

Where you fit in:

 

As our Solution Development Engineer (Civils) you will;

 

  • Provide technical inspection services for all civil asset types and produce written inspection reports.
  • Plan, implement and supervise both intrusive and non-intrusive investigation works.
  • Plan, implement and supervise the delivery of small-scale civil projects.
  • Provide expert technical advice regarding repair, modification and/or an appropriate and proportionate recommendation for maintaining an asset in service.
  • Liaise with specialist contractors to ensure the 'suitability for purpose' of inspection and repair techniques.
  • Fulfil the role of Client/Principal Designer/Principal Contractor.
  • Provide technical support on Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations following incidents and failures of civil assets.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to team members to support the transfer of specialist knowledge and succession planning within Yorkshire Water.   
  • Drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management and control of work and ensure compliance with the YW Safety Policy.

 

What skills & qualifications you will need:

 

  • Civil Engineering Degree, with significant previous industry relevant experience of inspection/investigation/repair/scheme delivery.
  • Be qualified to IEng or CEng level (or be working towards)
  • Knowledge of the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 and the ability to fulfil the role of Principal Designer/Principal Contractor. 
  • A thorough understanding and appreciation of failure modes and mechanisms associated with a wide range of civil asset types and structures.
  • An ability to liaise with specialist contractors to ensure the 'suitability for purpose' of inspection techniques to establish accurate representation of condition.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts into more readily understood information suitable for a wider business audience, able to influence people across multifunctional teams throughout the business.
  • Experience of working with and liaising with external contractors.
  • Effective at developing and maintaining internal and external relationships.
  • Clearly demonstrates the Yorkshire Water company values and behaviours.
  • Current full driving licence and flexibility to travel across the Yorkshire region.

 

You will also benefit from having:

 

  • Previous experience gained within the water or waste-water sectors.
  • Previous experience of site supervision duties.
  • Rudimentary surveying capability.
  • ACAD capability.
