We have an opportunity for two Schedulers to join the Central Control team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

What we do:

Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year, can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it’s so much more than this.

We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire’s water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. Central Control are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

As a Scheduler, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient coordination of work for our field teams, helping us continue to deliver a high standard of service to our customers.

You will be responsible for creating and managing schedules that support both planned and reactive activities, using Yorkshire Water systems and established principles to maximise productivity. Working closely with Planners, Field teams and Triage, you’ll ensure work is allocated effectively and completed as efficiently as possible.

The role is central to delivering a first-class customer experience. You will liaise with customers to keep them informed about their work, confirm scheduling, and provide estimated times of arrival. You’ll also respond to incoming queries, make informed decisions, and take proactive steps to minimise inefficiencies and support ‘right first time’ outcomes.

Throughout the day, you will monitor progress, manage any emerging risks or delays, and take appropriate action to maintain service commitments—escalating where required and working collaboratively with colleagues to keep everything on track.

Where you fit

As a Scheduler, you play a central coordination role, ensuring field operations run efficiently by planning, monitoring, and adjusting work schedules. You balance reactive and planned tasks, optimise resource use, and keep work on track to meet service levels.

You act as a key link between teams—allocating resources, prioritising workloads, and providing updates—while maintaining accurate records and using data to support decisions. The role also involves problem solving, responding to issues, improving processes, and contributing to overall performance and operational goals.

Ultimately, you help maximise productivity, minimise disruption, and ensure smooth day-to-day delivery of services.

What skills, experience, training and qualifications you will need:

We are looking for someone who:

  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Has strong stakeholder management skills and can coordinate across multiple teams.
  • Demonstrates sound problem-solving abilities, particularly in fast-paced or high-pressure situations.
  • Is confident using IT systems, ideally with experience of Yorkshire Water platforms.
  • Can influence and negotiate effectively.
  • Has experience supporting and embedding change, promoting positive behaviours and culture.
  • Understands how their role contributes to wider business goals.
  • Consistently demonstrates Yorkshire Water values and behaviours.
  • Has strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Shows excellent attention to detail, with a focus on achieving ‘right first time’ outcomes.

You may also benefit from having:

It would be advantageous if you also have:

  • Experience working towards challenging performance targets.
  • Previous experience in the water or wastewater sector, or within utilities, manufacturing or similar industries.
  • Experience using systems to plan large volumes of work (e.g. SAP).
  • An understanding of operational and maintenance processes within the water industry.
  • Knowledge of Yorkshire Water risk policies and processes.

Although we operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it’s important to us that we support flexible working patterns and job share options (when we can), to help you make the best of both your work and home life. We know that juggling childcare responsibilities or getting that ideal work/life balance isn’t always easy!
