Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but we’re moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future. We offer a Hybrid Working environment (up to 2 office a week – Bradford/Leeds).

Our Occupational Health and Safety team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
Our Occupational Health and Safety team acts as a central source of competent health and safety advice, supporting all members of the business unit. It plays a key role in driving a positive health and safety culture, visibly promoting the right behaviours and supporting cultural improvement where needed.
The team also acts as a conduit for health and safety information, ensuring clear, consistent communication between internal teams and external stakeholders. In addition, it is responsible for ensuring company health and safety policies are effectively implemented and embedded at business unit level, providing assurance that standards are met and maintained.
Where you fit in
As our Safety Advisor (Operational) you will primarily.
- Carry out SHE site inspections across contractor and operational sites, ensuring compliance with company standards and legal requirements.
- Deliver SHE induction training, ensuring employees and contractors understand health, safety and environmental expectations from day one.
- Support the investigation of significant SHE incidents, contributing to root cause analysis and the implementation of effective corrective actions.
- Promote and enforce high‑risk activity controls, with particular focus on working at height and lifting operations.
- Coach and develop individuals and teams on safe systems of work, including good hygiene practices when working with sewage.
- Ensure confined space working procedures are fully understood and followed, providing assurance that employees are competent and compliant.
What skills & qualifications you will need
- NEBOSH Certificate (Level 3) or equivalent as a minimum, with IOSH membership and an active CPD programme in line with IOSH requirements.
- Strong technical health and safety knowledge, including work at height, lifting operations, wet wells, process safety and Management of Change within a high‑hazard or regulated industry.
- Proven ability to coach, develop and influence others, demonstrating confidence and an authoritative approach when required to drive safe behaviours and compliance.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to create and deliver clear, engaging safety messages using innovative approaches.
- Experience working collaboratively with Trade Unions, supporting continuous improvement and positive safety culture as one team.
- Strong IT literacy, including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, with the ability to present data and insights effectively.
- Self‑confident, proactive and professional, able to challenge appropriately, manage change, and operate effectively in complex operational environments.
- Full UK driving licence, with flexibility and willingness to travel across the Yorkshire region and beyond when required. (No more than 6 points).
