We have an exciting opportunity for two Regulatory Controllers to join our Trade Effluent Team, helping Yorkshire Water provide the very best service to our customers. Could this be you?

 

Location:

 

The roles offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, predominantly covering West Yorkshire or South Yorkshire, however, there will be an expectation an element of your time will be spent working across the Yorkshire region, for team meetings, Trade Effluent investigations and customer site visits.

Please note this role requires flexibility to participate in an out of hours standby rota as a Trade Effluent subject matter expert for priority investigations and incidents.

The Trade Effluent team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of our customers and regulators. 

 

The Trade Effluent Team have three main responsibilities, namely protecting our environment from pollution, helping mitigate the risk of trade effluents to our Wastewater asset base compliance and providing a first class service to our Non-household customers.

 

Our team are involved in the customer end to end journey and liaise closely with our customers on a regular basis to provide advice, guidance, and support with all manner of enquiries.

 

All customers wishing to discharge Trade Effluent to the public sewer must have a Trade Effluent Consent in place prior to doing so.  Once in place, our team adopt a risk-based approach to monitor our customer's compliance with their Consent via a pre-scheduled sampling program and proactive investigations.

 

Customers who fail to adhere to their Consent conditions are managed in line with our Enforcement Policy, and, on occasion, face criminal prosecution.  Our Regulatory Controllers are thus experienced and well versed in criminal investigations and evidence gathering.

 

Working within retail competition rules the role has a significant part to play in updating the market with the status of applications, enquiries and ensuring sample results are representative and uploaded for charging customers for treating their Trade Effluent.

 

As our Regulatory Controller you will:

 

  • Uphold company policies and safe working procedures relating to Health & Safety.
  • Provide advice and guidance to all customers in your area of responsibility to continually improve our customer experience via the end-to-end journey.
  • Gather intelligence and evidence by undertaking investigations into illegal discharges and Trade Effluent compliance failures. 
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies to protect the sewerage network, sewage treatment compliance and the environment.
  • Support the effective delivery of the Trade Effluent Sampling programme.
  • Liaise with our Legal Team to generate formal cautions and criminal prosecution case files.
  • Develop and maintain policies and technical standards for the Trade Effluent Team to ensure Yorkshire Water complies with existing and new regulations and achieves its business plans and regulatory targets.
  • Identify opportunities to develop income streams for the Trade Effluent Team.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to drive process improvement and innovation

 

Experience & qualifications you will need:

 

  • A degree in an environmental or scientific discipline is preferred, but, in the absence of such qualification, sufficient operational experience will be considered.
  • Experience in the Water Industry, specifically within Wastewater.
  • Knowledge of Wastewater treatment processes, industrial treatment processes, flow measurement and sampling technologies.
  • Experience in a commercially orientated or regulated environment.
  • A current valid driving licence is essential (No more than 6 points).
  • Computer literate with data analysis skills.

 

You will also benefit from having:

 

  • An in-depth knowledge of key business processes that allow day to day delivery and visibility of individual and team performance (e.g., Hubs, Triggers process, pollution reporting).
  • Experience in incident management and asset failure recovery.
  • Ability to analyse complex, technical information.
