Location: Buttershaw / Hybrid Working ( 1-2 days office a week - Bradford)

Strategy & Regulation are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. 

 

The purpose of the business analyst role is to provide analytical and strategic support to the business in regulatory activities. This role bridges the gap between business functions and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory standards.

 

A key part of the role will be carrying out analysis to support the production of submissions to the economic regulator and other external stakeholders. The most significant of these being our five-yearly price review.

 

The role also involves conducting comparative analysis on external industry data and other relevant utilities to offer strategic insights into the company's performance in areas such as expenditure, incentives, and finance. A key responsibility is to communicate these insights through high-standard reports suitable for Board level engagement and to produce Power BI dashboards for detailed information interrogation.

 

Additionally, the business analyst supports the wider Regulation Team with analytical and modelling activity when required. Reporting to the Economic Regulation Manager, the business analyst is part of a wide regulation team of economists, analysts, and project managers, contributing to a cross-functional teams to address regulatory challenges and shape the business's strategic direction.

As our Regulatory Business Analyst you will

 

  • Complete modelling and analysis to support the production of submissions to the economic regulator and other external stakeholders
  • Produce annual benchmarking analysis and Power BI dashboards using Annual Performance Reports (APRs). Compile information for comparative analysis and communicate findings.
  • Present findings, projections, and recommended actions in formats suitable for various stakeholders, including senior management. Communicate regulatory requirements to business functions and support their implementation.
  • Work with the business to understand organizational structures, processes, and systems changes required to meet new regulatory expectations. Manage multidisciplinary project teams and organize workshops and training sessions.
  • Support the production of regulatory submissions to the economic regulator and other external stakeholders. Validate, verify, and quality assure regulatory data submissions.
  • Contribute to virtual teams of cross-business experts to develop strategic analysis on key future regulatory and market developments. Assess market trends, regional dynamics, and competitor behaviours.
  • Get data ready for use, specify how data should be cleansed and prepared, and bring data together from different sources. Peer-review colleagues' outputs to ensure quality.
  • Keep abreast of wider business developments, including industry research projects and publications. Communicate with cross-functional working groups.
  • Act as an ambassador for analytics and promote a data-driven culture within the department. Drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management, and control of work.

 

What skills & qualifications you will need:

 

  • Degree in business or analytical field.
  • Excellent analytical skills and an ability to communicate complex Information succinctly
  • Excellent Excel and other analytical software experience
  • Project Management skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and can develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships, including with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to form and work collaboratively with virtual teams of experts and stakeholders, and within a matrix programme management environment.
  • Dependable in working to tight internal and external deadlines.
  • Able to influence and drive right culture and behaviours.
  • Clearly demonstrates the Yorkshire Water company values and behaviours.

 

You will also benefit from having:

 

  • Competence in the use of Microsoft Power BI
  • Competence in statistical packages R, Stata or equivalent for data analysis.
  • Experience and knowledge of regulatory frameworks and regulatory approaches used in UK.
  • In depth knowledge of the issues facing the water sector
  • Commercially astute and aware of the key regulatory and legal implications of competitive markets.
  • Experience of matrix management
