Location: Knostrop, Leeds with flexible/hybrid working. Please note; there’s an expectation for you to attend various Wastewater Treatment works to support scheme progression where applicable.
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday within a standard working window.
We have an opportunity for a Project Manager to join the Wastewater Asset Management department and support Yorkshire Water in delivering its foundational investment plans across our infrastructure. Could this be the role for you?
As a Project Manager operating within the Wastewater Asset Management structure, you will be responsible for the direct management of £100m of spend to support the Non-Infrastructure (above-ground treatment) team and their foundational base investment plans. Key roles and responsibilities include:
• Managing £75m of base investment within the business MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation) process, ensuring spend is monitored, controlled, and appropriately profiled across the AMP process. You will support day-to-day management while maintaining a continuous improvement mindset to reduce run rates, minimise cost burden, and deliver efficient outcomes within the block allocation.
• Managing key direct delivery schemes to time, cost, and quality standards, delivering foundational investment into our base Wastewater Treatment Works.
• Managing and controlling the annual Welfare block allocation to provide operational teams with key infrastructure upgrades to HSSE design standards.
• Developing and designing a capital mitigation fleet for deployment to support mobilisation of our base infrastructure plan.
• Supporting the Wastewater Sponsor role with day-to-day programme management, enabling the wider team to focus on solution design while providing an effective delivery mechanism.
• Confidently reporting programme progress from Operations through to the Wastewater Asset Management Directorate.
What skills, experience, and qualifications you will need:
Our Project Manager will have experience working within multidisciplinary teams, driving business excellence and performance throughout project delivery. Holding a project management qualification (APM PMQ, PRINCE2, or equivalent), you will also:
• Be a strong communicator, able to negotiate and influence at all levels of the business.
• Have excellent stakeholder management skills, both internal and external.
• Be confident in creating and presenting information to a wide audience, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, non-technical way.
• Have the ability to develop strong, impactful business cases to secure investment and drive business benefits.
• Demonstrate resilience, with the ability to manage fast-paced change across multiple disciplines while handling conflicting priorities.
• Be proficient in Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Power BI.
• Be IT literate, with the ability to quickly learn company-specific software to support project outputs, including programme management tools, planning and scheduling systems, and Geographic Information Systems.
• Have a strong understanding of health and safety regulations and their importance in the workplace.
You will also benefit from having:
• Previous experience within the water or wastewater sector, or within broader utilities, process, or manufacturing industries.
• Experience in contractor management on-site, along with a working knowledge of Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations and relevant health and safety legislation.
• An understanding of how the water industry is regulated, with the ability to articulate current challenges facing wastewater (for example, pollution, internal and external sewer flooding events, etc.).
