Location: Yorkshire region base with regular regional travel, 1-2 days in the office / site per week

We have an exciting opportunity for a Process Safety Engineer to join the Asset Delivery team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Asset Delivery team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Process Safety, you will address unique engineering challenges and provide design and technical advice across Yorkshire Water. Your role includes supporting the capital delivery programme, offering operational and engineering support, and conducting studies and investigations into process related incidents.
This role reports into the Asset Technical Support Manager, with engagement across the wider Engineering, Maintenance, and Health and Safety teams within Yorkshire Water to ensure continued regulatory compliance. There is secondary assurance and close cooperation with the Group Safety Engineering team.
Where you fit in:
- Function as a first line, process safety support, as required to maintain operations; and recommend optimisation opportunities and suitable long-term solutions to address any operational issues.
- SME on Process Safety, supporting asset planning decisions, the development of engineering strategy, policy, procedures, and standards within Yorkshire Water.
- Provide support and guidance in the Capital delivery of Clean, Waste and Bio Resources projects, with a focus on risk management and regulatory compliance.
- Lead or support Investigations for pollutions, asset, and process performance shortfalls.
- Work with suppliers to provide strategic guidance for managing obsolescence and the deployment of new technologies and in developing frameworks to maximize value from suppliers and partners.
- You will provide coaching and mentoring to graduate engineers, technicians and team members to support the transfer of specialist knowledge and succession planning within Yorkshire Water.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- It is essential that you hold a formal engineering qualification to a minimum of HNC or equivalent (Preferably a HND or degree).
- Knowledge and ability to deliver and fully document a full Root Cause Analysis Investigation (RCA) following incidents and failures of process equipment and assets.
- Experience in developing engineering solutions and incorporating them into work packages/specifications.
- Knowledge and skills relevant to project design, management and delivery, including risk management of full asset life cycle.
- You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability of clearly communicating and influencing multifunctional teams with differing knowledge and ability.
- A full, valid driving licence (with no more than 6 points) is required for the role.
You will also benefit from having:
- Experience leading and participating in risk assessment, including, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA
- Experience and a working knowledge of functional safety management (IEC 61511) including SIL determination and verification
- Working knowledge of regulatory compliance including, COMAH, DSEAR and COSHH
- Engineering experience in water/waste/sludge treatment or other hazardous chemical production processes.
- An understanding of Control of Works and Management of Change systems.
- Proficient in the use of corporate IT Computer Systems e.g. SAP
- Asset management experience within an engineering or process related industry.
- A strong attention to detail
- Ideally, you will have a membership (or working towards membership) of a recognised Engineering Institution at Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 1-2 days in the office / on-site per week. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours.
