Location: West Yorkshire / Hybrid Working (1-2 days in the office a week – Bradford- Relocating to Leeds Summer 2026) 

 


Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

The Physical, Electronic & People Security Manager plays a key role in protecting Yorkshire Water by supporting the Protective Security Manager to identify, manage and mitigate security risks across the organisation. This role helps ensure robust and proportionate security arrangements are in place, while maintaining full compliance with Government and Water UK regulatory requirements, including SEMD, Protective Security Guidance and Water UK Security Standards. Working across the business, the role is central to safeguarding our people, assets and critical infrastructure.

As our Physical, Electronic & People Security Manager you will: 

 

 

  • Play a senior leadership role in safeguarding Yorkshire Water’s Critical National Infrastructure, ensuring the secure and resilient delivery of essential services.  
    Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory, statutory and industry security requirements, including those set by Defra, the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) and Water UK.  
  • Maintain full compliance with the Security and Emergency Measures Direction (SEMD), including ownership of the annual regulatory return and security incident reporting.  
  • Provide strategic leadership across physical, electronic and people security, setting direction and standards across the organisation.  
  • Manage a £10m capital investment programme across the AMP period, delivering effective and future ready security solutions.  
  • Ensure alignment with Protective Security Guidance (PSG), including security vetting and preemployment screening for employees, contractors and partners.  
  • Work closely with HR and the wider business to strengthen controls that mitigate insider risk.  
  • Champion and embed a strong protective security culture, raising awareness and accountability across Yorkshire Water.  
  • Lead, motivate and develop a team of security specialists and site access control subject matter experts, ensuring an efficient and high quality security service.  
  • Invest in continuous professional and personal development to ensure the team remains up to date with emerging threats, risks, vulnerabilities and security technologies.  
  • Provide both technical and nontechnical security advice to colleagues and capital delivery teams.  
  • Ensure robust monitoring of internal and external threats, using intelligence led approaches such as crime pattern analysis to identify and mitigate risk.  
  • Lead and oversee security investigations, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and data protection requirements.  
  • Act as the security advisor to the Company Incident Management Plan, providing expert guidance during live incidents.  
  • Design and deliver security exercises to prepare senior leaders and key personnel to respond effectively to major security incidents.  
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Government bodies, Counter Terrorism Security Advisors, local police forces and external agencies.
  • Define, maintain and regularly test Business Continuity Plans, ensuring resilient processes and a reliable 24/7 security service.  
  • Drive continuous improvement to ensure Yorkshire Water remains prepared for evolving security threats and risks. 

 


What skills & qualifications you will need: 

 

 

  • A subject matter expert in Protective Security, including physical, technical and electronic security controls.  
  • Proven leader with experience of managing teams, processes and performance. 
  • Strong ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels, from senior leaders to frontline colleagues. 
  • Hold an understanding of current security threats, technologies, vulnerabilities and malicious behaviours.  
  • Demonstrated success in driving sustained team performance against challenging business targets.  
  • The ability to build and maintain strong internal and external partnerships.  
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience in report writing, presentations and briefing senior stakeholders.
  • Previous experience in programme or project management
  • A strong background in conducting security and criminal investigations.
  • Experience of site surveys, audits, security assessments and risk assessments.
  • Holds, or is able to successfully obtain, Security Check (SC) security clearance.  
  • Full UK driving licence required.
