We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager of Leakage Reduction to join the Water Distribution team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

The Manager of Leakage Reduction will drive business performance through role model leadership to a team of operational and technical colleagues to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of an upper quartile leakage reduction rate and performance.  The business lead on delivery of our leakage reduction programme and operations, working in conjunction with peers to deliver the strategy and change required to hit performance targets. The role will deliver best in class asset and operational excellence across YW assets, in pursuit of health and safety excellence; regulatory compliance; operational efficiency and business plan outperformance.

As our Manager of Leakage Reduction you will:

 

  • Lead the delivery of the Leakage Reduction Plan, ensuring alignment with business targets and adapting strategies to meet evolving operational needs
  • Inspire and manage a high-performing team, setting clear expectations, recognizing achievements, and addressing underperformance constructively
  • Champion health, safety, and risk management, ensuring full compliance with the YW Safety Policy and fostering a culture of safety excellence
  • Drive sustainable leakage outperformance, benchmarking against industry standards and delivering continuous improvement in efficiency and productivity
  • Work with the Asset Management team to shape the future of leakage reduction and integrate smart technologies into operations
  • Ensure robust financial and commercial decision-making, embedding cost-effectiveness and value into all operational activities
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally, to support collaborative delivery and influence regulatory and industry developments
  • Lead incident and escalation management, ensuring rapid, effective responses to operational challenges while minimizing customer and environmental impact

 

What skills & qualifications you will need:

 

  • Understanding of Leakage and managing our underground assets
  • Recognisable skillset that is preferred within the water industry, its regulators bodies and/or experience within the utility sector
  • Excellent operational and people leader balanced with the analytical and creative abilities necessary for innovation. Knowledge and experience of best practice and constantly looking for new ways of working and improving
  • Exemplify and bring to life our core values of outstanding safety management
  • Strongly motivated by the provision of unrivalled customer service
  • Ability and track record of delivering successful change in a sustainable manner
  • Strong networking and influencing skills
  • Ability to understand data and formulate effective strategies for teams

  • Understands and consistently utilises BPM and change management techniques
  • Budget and P&L management experience
  • Ability to lead and motivate field based operational roles

 

You will also benefit from having:

 

  • Good understanding of Water operational structures and processes
  • Understanding of the regulatory requirements and measures for WASCs
  • Understanding of the Water Act and the Competition Act
  • Experience of setting up new functions and teams that covers process, systems and people
  • Degree or equivalent in Science or Engineering preferred
