A critical role in the delivery of Yorkshire Water’s leakage reduction targets and long term demand reduction Strategy; The Manager of Leakage Data, Assurance and Analytics will lead a team of highly skilled analysts, schedulers, reporting professionals and data managers as part of the Water Distribution Team.  

 

The Manager of Leakage Data, Assurance and Analytics is a critical role within the Water Distribution Team; responsible for the maintenance and management of our Netbase system that supports the accurate understanding of consumption and losses across the Water network.  The team are responsible for the analysis of data to identify areas requiring further investigation by analytical and operational teams to support the drive to reduce water demand, through accurate measurement and reporting of water consumption, and the identification and repair of leakage. The team is responsible for the targeting and data strategy for Leakage Analytics, embedding new ways of working, integrating systems or new technology into analytical processes to drive the continuous improvement required to reduce Leakage in line with our regulatory and Business targets 

 

The role also involves leading assurance activities across the Leakage Team; supporting the efficient delivery of operational activities to ensure business performance targets are met while maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of our teams and ensuring compliance. Working with colleagues in our Asset Management teams, the team are also responsible for the monitoring and reporting of our Leakage reduction activity across the Prevent, Aware, Locate, Mend model to support the continual optimisation of our Leakage reduction activities and to inform our future Leakage and Demand Reduction strategy.

 

The role will manage two key teams:

 

  • Leakage Assurance Team – focused on embedding best practices, technical guidance, and competency development in leak detection.
  • Operational Efficiency and Data Insights Team – responsible for transforming reporting, leveraging analytics, and driving data-led decision-making.

 

This role is pivotal in aligning operational practices with strategic goals, ensuring consistent application of leak detection techniques, and maximising the value of data to support leakage reduction and investment planning.

Leadership & Strategy

 

  • Lead and develop two high-performing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Align operational assurance and data analytics strategies with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion continuous improvement and innovation across leakage operations.
  • As part of the Water Distribution Management team, support the formulation and delivery of strategies across the department in support of delivery of our Company Strategy of; A thriving Yorkshire, right for customers, right for the environment
  • Representing YW and Water Distribution at Leakage network events, in club projects and cross industry collaborative working groups  
  • Act as a key liaison between operational teams, IT, finance, and strategic planning functions.
  • Responsibility for the Water Networks data strategy, working with Operational and Asset Management colleagues to identify and deliver an approach that maximises the benefit and use of Network Data to enhance our understanding of the Network and reduce demand and leakage through investigation and operational intervention

 

Leakage and Operational Assurance

 

  • Shaping the technical assurance of the leakage E2E and reporting process
  • Responsibility for APR reporting of both Water Balance Outputs & Leakage performance; ensuring compliance with OFWAT reporting guidance
  • Supporting the trial, deployment and embedding of innovative detection and repair technologies.
  • Driving improvements in data accuracy of reported Leakage (DMA & Upstream), Demand components, and other elements of the Water Balance
  • Oversee the management and enhancement of Netbase and DMA reported Leakage, and maintain effective working relationship with the providers Crowder Consulting
  • Ensure data integrity and compliance with internal protocols and external standards
  • Lead the integration of smart metering and Netbase data into operational strategies.

 

 

Data Insights & Operational Efficiency

 

  • Developing and maintaining best practice guidance and protocols for operational Leakage teams.
  • Oversee the development and automation of dashboards and reporting tools to enhance visibility and performance tracking.
  • Provide technical support, feedback and performance information to operational teams and leaders.
  • Drive productivity analysis and benefits evaluation across leakage activities (e.g., Smart Metering, DMA splits, Pressure Management).
  • Utilise machine learning and advanced analytics to prioritise leakage reduction efforts.
  • Monitor and report on DMA performance, inspector productivity, and acoustic logger utilisation.

 

Generic Accountabilities

 

  • Understanding of the Yorkshire Water business plan targets, outcomes and KPIs, ensuring that the Leakage reduction business plan is aligned with the Kelda and Yorkshire Water business plans.
  • Regularly communicating with key business stakeholders to demonstrate the value of YW Leakage Reduction.
  • Demonstrating excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management, control of work and ensuring compliance with the YW Safety Policy.
  • Accountable for adherence to Company standards, policy and procedure and following Business Process Management ethos, to ensure regulatory and legal compliance and maintenance of ISO accreditation.
  • Demonstrate relentless drive, energy and determination to deliver sustainable outperformance for YW that rigorously achieves against demanding sector leading customer service.  

 

What skills & qualifications you will need:

 

  • Strong understanding of leak detection methods and end-to-end leakage processes.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, dashboard development, and reporting automation.
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams and driving change.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Be able to establish effective working relationships to influence leaders at all levels of Yorkshire Water.
  • Strategic and tactical thinking with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
  • Budget management experience and financial acumen.
  • Has created management information suites, enabling visibility of key metrics and subsequently driven change from the insight.
  • Highly motivated and self-reliant with a personal drive for continuous development
