Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but we’re moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future - Hybrid Working (1–2 days in the office a week – Bradford/Leeds)

Yorkshire Water is developing a portfolio of major strategic water infrastructure projects worth more than £2.5bn. These projects will play a critical role in securing Yorkshire's long-term water resilience and are among the most significant infrastructure investments currently being developed within the UK water sector. We're looking for an exceptional commercial leader to help drive this programme forward, providing leadership across commercial strategy, procurement, market engagement and programme delivery. This is a rare opportunity to join the leadership team responsible for shaping the commercial strategy, procurement approach and delivery model for nationally significant infrastructure projects that will have a lasting impact on customers, communities and the environment.

As our Manager of Commercial - DPC you will:

 

 

  • Reporting to the Head of DPC, lead the commercial, procurement, and legal development of Yorkshire Water's Direct Procurement for Customers (DPC) portfolio. 
  • Provide strategic leadership across a complex infrastructure portfolio, building capability, leading teams and advisors, and influencing senior stakeholders. 
  • Contribute as a member of the DPC Core Leadership Team, helping to shape programme strategy and influence key decisions. 
  • Ensure commercial activities are aligned with programme objectives and regulatory requirements. 
  • Lead commercial workstreams across multiple major projects, working closely with executive stakeholders, project teams, regulators, partner organisations, and specialist advisors. 
  • Drive successful outcomes through strong leadership, sound judgement, stakeholder management, and commercial expertise. 
  • Lead the commercial development of Yorkshire Water's DPC portfolio. 
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to commercial resources and specialist advisors. 
  • Develop commercial, procurement, and contracting strategies across major infrastructure projects. 
  • Ensure commercial strategies are translated into practical and deliverable procurement approaches. 
  • Lead market engagement with contractors, investors, advisors, and supply chain organisations. 
  • Manage commercial risks, opportunities, and governance across the portfolio. 
  • Support major submissions and engagement with regulators and other key stakeholders. 
  • Provide commercial leadership, guidance, and challenge to project managers and wider programme teams. 
  • Represent Yorkshire Water in external partnerships, joint ventures, and strategic industry forums. 
  • Support the development of commercial capability across the DPC programme.

 


What skills & qualifications you will need:

 

 

  • Proven commercial leadership experience delivering major infrastructure or capital investment programmes. 
  • Strong track record of influencing senior stakeholders, leading teams, managing complexity, and delivering results. 
  • Excellent leadership, commercial judgement, and strategic thinking skills. 
  • Ability to build, develop, and motivate high-performing teams. 
  • Confident decision-maker with the credibility to challenge, support, and influence others. 
  • Experience shaping strategy and managing specialist advisors and external partners. 
  • Background in sectors such as Water, Energy, Utilities, Rail, Highways, Defence, Aviation, or other major infrastructure Environments. 
  • Significant experience developing and delivering commercial and procurement strategies for complex projects. 
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills. 
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering successful commercial outcomes. 
  • Experience taking major projects through procurement, commercial close, or financial close would be advantageous. 
  • Knowledge of PPP, PFI, DBFOM, output-based contracting, or similar delivery models would be beneficial.
