We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Leakage Engineer to join the Leakage team within Water Distribution at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Where you fit in:

 

As our Trainee Leakage Engineer you will

 

  • The purpose of the role is to promote succession planning and continuity in the Leakage Engineering team.
  • Be provided with the training, core skills, support and experience to enable development and progression to a Leakage Engineer role.
  • The Trainee Leakage Engineer will work under the direction of the Leakage Engineers to provide technical advice and engineering support to the business and service partners in relation to leakage investigation and reduction.
  • As the Trainee progresses in the role, they will eventually take ownership and responsibility for less complex tasks and activities to enable them to gain the skills and experience needed to progress to the Leakage Engineer role.
  • The Trainee Leakage Engineer will support the Leakage Engineers with development, delivery, and implementation of operational and capital solutions for leakage purposes. 
  • The Trainee Leakage Engineer will develop an understanding of common risks, opportunities and appropriate solutions and gain an understanding of how they align with the company Performance Commitments to ensure a cost-effective and sustainable reduction in leakage.

 

What skills & qualifications you will need:

 

  • Ability to develop strong interpersonal skills and to work effectively within a team.
  • The ability and experience to communicate with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand and use relevant corporate systems and IT applications. 
  • Able to understand data and interpret trends.
  • A basic knowledge of, or ability to understand the design and operation principles of potable water distribution network assets.
  • Knowledge of leakage principles, monitoring, calculation and analysis techniques.
  • Able to support detailed leakage and optimisation investigations under the direction of a Leakage Engineer.
  • Ability to understand the potential benefits of optimisation and pressure management proposals.
  • Basic understanding of the application of hydraulic calculations and modelling tools. 
  • Can undertake efficient site investigation activities to collect additional hydraulic data.
  • Ability to use and act upon own initiative to solve and overcome challenges.
  • Has an understanding of YW performance and regulatory commitments and understands how these can be affected by your activities.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Able to work occasional unsociable hours (i.e. nights and weekends).
  • Grade 4 (C GCSE) or equivalent (can be a functional skills qualification) in maths and English language (proof of qualifications required)
