What we do:
Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year, can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it’s so much more than this.
We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire’s water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity.
New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment, and changing expectations from customers mean this is an exciting time to build a career in the water industry. The Capital Programme Delivery team plays an important role in helping Yorkshire Water respond to these challenges by coordinating programmes, engaging stakeholders, and supporting successful delivery across a complex and evolving landscape.
In this role, you will lead the planning and coordination of multiple projects, working with internal teams, delivery partners, local authorities, and regulatory stakeholders to keep priorities aligned, manage dependencies, and support timely, well-governed delivery. You will be central to building relationships, maintaining oversight, and ensuring decisions, risks, and actions are clearly understood and effectively managed.
Where you fit in:
As our Lead Project Manager, you will play a leading role in stakeholder coordination, and delivery governance, including:

- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with local authorities, regulators, delivery partners, and internal teams to support approvals, engagement, and effective decision-making.
- Providing clear oversight of programme performance, including milestones, risks, issues, dependencies, and expenditure, with concise reporting for senior stakeholders and governance forums.
- Coordinating governance activities, approvals, actions, and decisions to ensure progress is maintained and the right people are engaged at the right time.
- Identifying emerging risks, changes, and issues, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to agree mitigations, remove blockers, and maintain delivery momentum.
- Facilitating collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and external partners, helping to translate priorities into coordinated plans and practical next steps.
- Acting as a visible and credible point of leadership, using strong communication, organisation, and stakeholder management skills to support successful outcomes in a complex environment.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- Extensive experience of working with Local Authorities and in a street works environment.
- You will be an experienced professional with a strong track record of coordinating delivery in a complex organisational environment.
- You will have extensive stakeholder management experience, with the confidence to build credibility and work effectively with local authorities, regulatory bodies, delivery partners, and senior internal stakeholders.
- You will ideally have experience of working in a regulated, public sector, utilities, or customer-focused environment, where governance, external engagement, and accountability are important.
- You will be an excellent communicator, both written and verbally, and able to present complex information clearly to a wide range of audiences.
- You will be highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate multiple workstreams, and maintain momentum across a broad range of stakeholders.
- You will have strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach, with the ability to influence, mediate, and resolve issues in a constructive and professional way.
We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 2 days in the office per week. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours.
Although we operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it's important to us that we support flexible working patterns and job share options (when we can), to help you make the best of both your work and home life. We know that juggling childcare responsibilities or getting that ideal work/life balance isn't always easy!
Do we sound like your cup of tea?
