Location: Bradford, Buttershaw, hybrid working - typically 1 day in the office / week –with extensive travel around the YW region to operational and office sites.
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Inspector (Service Reservoirs) to join the Engineering – Civils Team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

The Engineering – Civils Team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
The Engineering – Civils Team forms a part of Asset Delivery and consists of a Principal Engineer for the discipline and a small group of Civil Engineers and Service Reservoir Engineers.
Specifically relating to Service Reservoirs, our work includes:
- The management, maintenance and improvement of all Yorkshire Waters Service Reservoirs, Water Towers, Clean Water Tanks and Contact Tanks.
- Providing key technical knowledge that is used to identify any structural defects in the 400-plus service reservoirs operated by YWS.
- Specifying the techniques and approaches that should be used in the construction and repair our assets, working in conjunction with framework partners.
- The sourcing of all the key knowledge on these assets that is used to develop both medium-term and long-term investment needs.
- Supporting the management of other Water Business Unit assets e.g. partially treated storage tanks, buildings and non-operational or redundant assets.
Where you fit in:
As an Inspector (Service Reservoirs) you will:
- Undertake methodical inspections of all distribution service reservoirs and production potable water retaining structures.
- Identify any works, investigate solutions, coordinate and manage repairs, refurbishment and rehabilitation in line with all relevant standards inc. CDM, H&S, Water Quality and Reservoir Safety.
- Investigate solutions and obtain valuations, while managing both the reactive and proactive service reservoir investment budgets.
- Raise Works Instructions and issue Pre-Construction Information documents together with coordinating and overseeing on-site works to ensure quality, compliance and sign-off.
- Conduct asset condition surveys and maintain relevant databases, plans and regulatory documentation while developing multi-horizon maintenance strategies and bespoke inspection programmes.
- Develop and implement operational and safe working procedures to minimize water quality incidents and support statutory inspections.
- Manage Direct Procured Capital schemes, including approvals, orders, payments, deviations and additional works.
- Represent YW as Business Sponsor, End User, Asset Standard Owner, and technical expert for new build SREs.
- Ownership of the ‘Reinforced Concrete Service Reservoirs’ design guidance together with other relevant policies.
- Provide expert technical support for capital solutions and ensure Asset Delivery input into design and problem resolution.
- Liaise with Capital Delivery and Asset teams for medium and long-term capital investment planning, supporting Early Contractor Involvement and identifying financial benefits.
- Liaise with various key stakeholders to address performance shortfalls and promote works, ensuring regulatory and H&S compliance.
- Act as Client and Principal Designer for YWS under CDM Regulations, ensuring compliance with H&S legislation, EUSR Health & Hygiene requirements, and DWI Regulation 31.
- Provide key knowledge and expertise for the Minor Civils Contract including the evaluation of tender documents and contract review meetings.
- Collaborate with Land & Planning on the disposal and decommissioning of redundant above ground assets, providing advice and approvals for site development by third parties.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- Extensive previous experience in the operation, inspection or repair of similar engineering structures
- Experience or background knowledge of Water Quality & Public Health.
- High awareness of risk management
- Well organised and methodical
- Good IT skills
- Well -developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage on-site activities and personnel
- Confined Spaces / Working at Heights training.
- Full Driving Licence
