Location: Yorkshire region base with regular regional travel, 1-2 days in the office / site per week

We have an exciting opportunity for an Inspector - Process & Commissioning to join the Asset Delivery & Engineering team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

The Engineering Team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
As part of the Construction and Commissioning Assurance team, you will oversee site inspections across the capital programme to ensure effective project delivery. You will bridge the gap between design acceptance and execution by collaborating with Design Process Engineers and Contract Partners to maintain consistent standards.
Key Responsibilities will include:
Quality Assurance: Conduct site inspections to ensure Contract Partners adhere to Engineering Specifications and regulatory requirements.
Commissioning Leadership: Lead commissioning planning and execution, attending key project stages to mitigate business risks.
Documentation & Approval: Review and approve partner completion documentation.
Continuous Improvement: Provide technical feedback and "lessons learned" to Design and Project Management teams to refine future engineering standards.
Where you fit in:
- Provide technical inspection services for assets ensuring that the Installation is in line with the Design, Yorkshire Water Engineering Specification, and statutory documents. including Performance and reliability witness testing.
- YWS require a consistent and thorough approach to process commissioning across all projects. A key accountability will be ensuring that the drawing submissions and process commissioning plans are sufficiently developed to allow them to proceed and that the actual meetings consider operation and maintenance in the detail required.
- Ensuring the Contract partners organisations have a robust ‘as built’ drawing process for all assets.
- Feedback into the design team of both good and bad examples of Design for Maintenance.
- Progressively review Supplier’s and Contractor’s quality records.
- Reviews partner completion documentation complies with Engineering Specification requirements before granting approval on behalf of YW.
- Contribute to YW’s Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) strategy.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to team members to support the transfer of specialist knowledge and succession planning within Yorkshire Water.
- Attends necessary meetings with wider engineering team functions, programme delivery and partners to ensure alignment of goals, priorities and achievement of success.
- Supports the wider engineering function in developing and implementing best practice techniques.
- Liaises with suppliers, technical planning and procurement personnel on workmanship, quality and specification of equipment and construction activities.
- Drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management and control of work and ensure compliance with the YW Safety Policy.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- Technically based qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience in identifying practical/innovative solutions to ensure the risks from a process plant are As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) with the ability to apply cost-benefit analysis where appropriate.
- Proven experience in sustainably integrating the output from significant engineering projects into business-as-usual business processes. This applies to processes across the full asset life-cycle (Design, Operate, Inspect, Maintain, Decommission).
- Significant previous industry relevant engineering experience on construction and installation of assets within medium to large scale industrial processes operating in regulated environment.
- Familiarity with operating projects in accordance with the CDM Regulations and internal business Control of Work policies and procedures. This includes for example confined space entry, hot work and working at height.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts into more readily understood information suitable for a wider business audience, able to influence people across multifunctional teams throughout the business.
- Experience of working with and liaising with external contractors and supply chain.
- Develops and maintains effective internal and external relationships.
- Clearly demonstrates the Yorkshire Water company values and behaviours.
- Current full, clean driving licence and flexibility to travel across the Yorkshire region.
You will also benefit from having:
- Asset management experience within a large-scale engineering or process related industry.
- Previous experience gained within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process or manufacturing industry sectors
- Holds valid CSCS card
