Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but we’re moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future - Hybrid Working (1-2 days in the office a week – Bradford/Leeds)

 


Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday

The IT Senior Project Manager leads the successful delivery of complex projects, with accountability for governance, budgets, risks, quality, resources, stakeholders, and benefits realisation. The role requires strong strategic thinking, effective decision-making, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders to ensure projects deliver sustainable value and positive outcomes for Yorkshire Water, its customers, and colleagues.

As our IT Senior Project Manager, you will:

 

 

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of complex projects, taking full accountability for scope, governance, execution, and successful outcomes. 
  • Establish and maintain effective project controls, including planning, monitoring, reporting, risk management, change control, and quality assurance. 
  • Manage project finances, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, revenue management, and capital expenditure. 
  • Provide strong financial stewardship by monitoring project investment, resource allocation, and overall value for money. 
  • Drive cost optimisation initiatives and deliver financial insight to support informed decision-making by senior stakeholders. 
  • Build, manage, and maintain effective relationships with senior stakeholders, acting as a trusted point of contact throughout the project lifecycle. 
  • Facilitate informed and timely decision-making through clear communication, governance, and stakeholder engagement. 
  • Ensure robust project governance frameworks are implemented and adhered to, with effective oversight of risks, issues, changes, and project performance. 
  • Proactively identify, assess, and manage project risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are in place. 
  • Plan and coordinate resource deployment to ensure effective utilisation, delivery capability, compliance, and alignment to quality standards. 
  • Maintain and promote high-quality delivery standards, driving continuous improvement and best practice across project activities. 
  • Drive benefits realisation by ensuring project deliverables align with business objectives and approved business cases. 
  • Define, measure, monitor, and track benefits throughout the project lifecycle to ensure intended outcomes are achieved. 
  • Deliver projects within agreed scope, timescales, budget, and quality parameters while meeting strategic business objectives. 
  • Successfully deliver complex projects, achieving agreed objectives across scope, schedule, budget, risk, change, and quality measures. 
  • Maintain strong financial governance through accurate budgeting, forecasting, and effective management of capital and operational expenditure. 
  • Optimise project costs and maximise value, providing robust financial insight to support business and investment decisions. 
  • Embed proactive risk management practices, ensuring risks are identified, mitigated, and effectively communicated to stakeholders. 
  • Build stakeholder confidence through effective communication, transparency, expectation management, and strong relationship management. 
  • Ensure planned business benefits are realised, measured, and sustained through successful project delivery and change implementation. 
  • Maintain effective resource planning and quality management, ensuring compliance, continuous improvement, and successful business outcomes. 
  • Deliver measurable organisational value by aligning project outputs with strategic priorities and business goals.

 


What skills & qualifications you will need:

 

 

  • Proven experience delivering complex projects with accountability for governance, budgets, controls, risks, and stakeholder management. 
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and spend control. 
  • Experience in cost management and optimisation, with the ability to provide clear financial reporting and insight. 
  • Demonstrated capability in organisational budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and supporting investment decisions. 
  • Strong risk management experience, including risk identification, mitigation, reporting, and stakeholder advice. 
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence decisions, and drive delivery outcomes. 
  • Experience managing benefits realisation, ensuring delivery aligns with business cases and expected outcomes. 
  • Proven ability to manage resources, suppliers, quality standards, compliance, and continuous improvement activities. 
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, governance frameworks, and best practices. 
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills, with the ability to deliver measurable business value.
