Location: West Yorkshire / Hybrid Working -The role will primarily cover the North area, but you will also work across the West and East of the catchment. Travel across the region is essential, although the role does offer hybrid working.
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

As a Flood Risk & Engagement Engineer, you’ll play a key role in community resilience and strengthening Yorkshire Water’s position as a leader in flood risk management. This is a chance to make a real impact working closely with local councils and the Environment Agency to reduce flood risk across the region, support statutory duties under the Floods & Water Management Act, and ensure Yorkshire Water is recognised as a trusted, knowledgeable partner in managing flood resilience.
Where you fit in:
As our Flood Risk & Engagement Engineer you will:
- Work closely with Lead Local Flood Authorities, the Environment Agency and Yorkshire Water teams to share data, support investigations, and maintain strong partnerships.
- Act as the day to day contact for local authorities on operational and strategic flood risk issues.
- Attend regular liaison meetings, Scrutiny Panels, Flood Groups, Parish Councils and community forums as the Yorkshire Water representative.
- Lead and support flood investigations, respond to major flood events, and provide technical input during Silver and Gold Command.
- Review flooding incidents, identify learning and support improvements to plans and processes.
- Support the development and delivery of flood mitigation plans, Vulnerable Asset Plans and multi agency flood schemes.
- Manage high profile and escalated customer flood issues with professionalism and expertise.
- Provide technical support to operational teams, Directors, Corporate Affairs and partner organisations.
- Work with Developer Services on SUDS planning and adoption, and with modelling teams to interpret flood risk outputs.
- Strengthen collaboration across councils, MPs, stakeholders and internal teams to improve flood resilience across the region.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- Strategy development and implementation
- Ability to effectively develop and maintain internal and external relationships
- Experience of working with cross sector partnerships
- Proven track record of complex problem solving and incident management
- Excellent stakeholder and customer management skills
- Excellent communication and engagement skill set
- Experience of working in a regulated environment

You will also benefit from having:
- Relevant discipline or relevant experience in flood risk management
- Awareness of the Flood and Water Management Act
- Understanding of sustainable drainage systems and blue-green infrastructure
- Sounds knowledge and experience of managing fluvial and pluvial flood risk
- Sounds knowledge and experience of managing drainage or sewerage systems
- An understanding of hydraulic design and modelling to work
