Where you fit in:

 

As an experience Enterprise Portfolio Manager you'll act as the glue to bring together the portfolio to ensure it is set up for success and aligned to the strategic objectives of YW. This involved developing and implementing a portfolio management framework overseeing change initiatives and driving strategic business objectives. As Deputy to the Head of Enterprise Change, you will lead the translation of business strategy into delivery, prioritising change, enabling successful landing of change and managing a significant budget. 

 

You will be responsible for developing and implementing an Enterprise Portfolio and Programme Management framework, overseeing and assuring the portfolio of change initiatives across the business, and prioritising change to ensure maximum return on investment.

 

You will be a key member of the leadership team, leading a team of Programme Managers and senior business resource (circa 15) and manage a projected portfolio spend of £100-150 million over the AMP (this is the 5-year financial period we work to in the water industry). You will also prepare and present papers to board level, ensuring that tactical changes align with strategic plans to minimise regret spend and maximise returns on investment.

 

What you'll need to do to succeed in this role

 

  • Develop and implement a portfolio management framework to support the business's medium and longer-term strategic direction.
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure awareness, understanding, and buy-in to change projects and programmes from all team members.
  • Develop and maintain a roadmap to deliver improvement in capability and operational productivity across multiple business units, ensuring equal opportunities for all employees.
  • Work with business leaders to identify and prioritise projects and programmes that deliver maximum return on investment, considering diverse perspectives and ideas.
  • Develop and implement a best practice enterprise framework for portfolio, programme, and project management, promoting inclusivity and respect for all team members.
  • Ensure adherence to standards, procedures, and tools that align with the type of change being delivered, recognising the value of diverse experiences and skills.
  • Provide regular reporting to stakeholders and the Enterprise Change Board on portfolio performance, risks, and issues, using language that is free from bias and stereotypes.
  • Identify and address capability gaps within the business that prevent successful receipt of change, focusing on equal access to opportunities and resources
  • Develop and govern cross-organisation capability plans to provide a single line of sight on requirements and progress, celebrating the contributions of all team members
  • Direct line management and support of 15 people managers, with overall accountability for their teams, promoting a culture of respect, empathy, and inclusivity.

 

The skills and experience we're looking for:

 

  • Managed large-scale portfolios, programmes, and projects (100+)
  • Business planning, resource, and budget management expertise
  • Proven track record of leading teams to achieve challenging targets
  • Experience with Programme Management offices
  • Builds strong internal and external relationships
  • Successfully lead and embedded change, driving positive culture and behaviours

 

It's a plus if you have:

 

  • Experience in the utilities sector
  • Qualified in portfolio management and/or program management
  • Degree-level education or higher
