Location:  Leeds / Yorkshire - Hybrid Working (a mix of office, site and home working).  The role will involve travel to different sites across Yorkshire, therefore you will need a UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.

 


Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday between the working window of 8:00am-6:00pm. 

 

 


We have an exciting opportunity for an Energy Compliance & Flexibility Services Specialist to join the Energy Team within the wider Commercial Services team at Yorkshire Water.

The Energy team are responsible for the procurement and delivery of energy supply to 4,500 sites across Yorkshire. With an approximate spend of £120m annually in electricity and gas costs, this small but high profile team has budget responsibility for the second largest area of operating expenditure in the Yorkshire Water business. The Energy team also generates revenues of circa £4m from renewable generation incentives. Private Wire generation from renewables currently supplies 18% of consumption demand, with plans to more than double this by 2030.

 

 


Where you fit in!

 


This role offers the opportunity to develop the area of Flexibility Services identified by our energy strategy. With our ongoing investment in renewable generation and existing sites featuring multiple sources of generation and export, the business is looking to leverage our assets and develop further revenue streams from government incentives and third party collaborations in the area of grid services.


You will be responsible for developing opportunities in the area of Flexibility Services. You will use your energy industry experience and grid services knowledge to work with site operational colleagues to identify revenue opportunities.


Additionally you will be the interface between the Energy Team and the Kelda Commercial Team, supporting the team with onboarding the contractual and metering requirements for new renewable assets into our energy contract portfolio. You will also safeguard our income by keeping up to date asset lists and maintaining our Ofgem accreditation, taking the lead on renewable site audits.

 

 


Some of the key responsibilities include the following;

 


•    Evaluate and deliver flexibility service opportunities identified by the Energy Strategy in the areas of grid services and capacity management


•    Work with the Asset Delivery team and Operational teams to facilitate schemes through load shifting, time of day tariff optimisation etc.


•    Optimise cash-out mechanisms to outperform season hedges prices including load shifting to utilise negative hour ahead pricing


•    Demand Side Response: maximise revenues from Capacity Market participation


•    Evaluate and deliver optimum balance of other grid flexibility services including Frequency Response, DNO Security of Supply services, Reserve services and Reactive services


•    Support effectiveness of flexibility services through integration with renewables delivery, battery storage and market price incentives


•    Maintain Ofgem accreditation of our existing generation assets, comply with audit requests and regular data submissions


•    Utilise and manipulate data to provide support for business case development


•    Develop processes for asset information management

 

 


What skills and qualifications you will need;

 


•    Significant work experience within the energy, renewables and utilities industries


•    Experience of energy regulatory processes and working with energy suppliers, meter operators, DNO’s


•    Experience of working in the water industry preferable, though not essential


•    Significant experience of flexible electricity pricing mechanisms


•    Excellent IT skills, proficient in all MS Office Applications, especially Excel


•    Strong organisational skills, the ability to manage and organise heavy workloads, prioritising relevant business needs. Good attention to detail


•    Analytical and problem-solving skills


•    Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to understand and liaise with others, this could be colleagues, managers and external contractors


•    Able to be resilient under pressure and is self-reliant with a personal drive for continuous development, demonstrating a strong customer service ethos

 

 

We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 1-2 days in the office per week, plus site visits. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours.
