Location - This role is based at our Service Delivery Centre in Bradford

 

 

Work Type – This is a permanent role, working full time. The role operates on a rotating 24-hour shift basis leading a shift team of 24/7 Control Room Specialists, providing the business with operational knowledge, experience, and strong decision-making capabilities. You will be required to work  out of hours, and in hours as necessary, this role will be the senior operational decision maker across the business, ensuring events and incidents are managed and controlled to minimise operational risk and customer impact

Where you fit in: 

 

 

The Duty Manager is one of a team of senior shift managers responsible for all Water and Wastewater functions to safeguard the Environment and our Customers. This position is responsible for the central management of critical performance commitment impacting events serving over 5 million domestic and retail customers, ensuring safety and compliance, whilst proactively mitigating against any adverse impact on acceptable levels of service to our customers

 

 

Some of the key role responsibilities include the following – 
 

•    The critical decision maker and lead in activation, escalation and management of incidents in line with the Company Incident Management Plan (CIMP). Ensures any risks or threats to the business are escalated, managed and communicated effectively using the company incident management plan structure
•    Addresses mitigation of operational risks through effective incident management from response to resolution – including risks to safety, the environment and customers
•    Instigation of company response procedures and playbooks to any breach of security or resilience threat
•    Acts as the critical point of escalation for operational, colleague and public safety risks. Ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of employees, contractors and those affected by our work is never compromised when making operational decisions
•    Supports the Emergency Preparedness & Resilience Manager in delivery of incident management training and incident exercises 
•    Maintains an effective 24/7 operational service provision within YW, providing a continual source of high-level operational knowledge and support to ensure effective decision making and excellent service to our customers and the environment
•    Monitors key metrics in day to day performance across the business directorates using situational awareness tools to identify any emerging risks to the business with the aim of safeguarding life, customers, the environment, and service
•    This role has implied responsibility for Water and Wastewater opera-tional budgets, including service partner commercial contracts. It is es-sential that the role has awareness of applicable and suitable financial approval routes to manage risk accordingly

•    Decisions made by the Duty Manager have the potential to directly im-pact business performance commitments leading to £Ms in fines or PC impacts, and the role acts to safeguard the business and prevent risks becoming realised.

•    Expected to execute highly complex problem solving and decision making involving competing demands.

•    Builds and manages the internal working relationships between the Central Control and other YW functions, to ensure alignment of objectives and priorities

 

What skills are we looking for?
 

•    Previous experience in incident management and implementing business continuity plans to safeguard the delivery of service
•    Knowledge of a wide range operational assets, processes and regulations across all business areas. We are particularly looking for the successful candidate to have a waste water background.
•    Knowledge and understanding of asset management principles and 
processes in a commercially orientated and / or regulated environment
•    Experience of business planning, resource and budget management
•    Experience of managing and leading a team with a proven track record of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets
•    Experience of leading and embedding change / ability to influence and drive the right culture of Health Safety and wellbeing
•    Proven track record of strategic leadership, driving strategic change and implementing business plans
•    Excellent interpersonal, analytical and communication skills, including the ability to present complex information for a non-specialist audience
•    Ability to translate business strategy into day to day delivery
•    Healthy internal and external network
•    Ability of demonstrate initiative and a highly flexible, constructive attitude
•    Experience of a high pressure working environment

 

It would also be beneficial if you have the following - 
 

•    Knowledge of the UK Resilience structure, including in depth knowledge of the Civil Contingencies Act and the Security & Emergency Measures Direc-tion
•    Experience of 24 hours shift operation
•    Leadership ability, operational experience and technical know how to re-spond to rapidly changing operational needs e.g., severe weather condi-tions, high water demand, flooding
•    Be able to demonstrate extensive specialist, operational water industry knowledge and skill
