Data Centre Technician

 

Salary: £24,422 to £29,658 dependent on experience + pension + free parking + 25 days holiday

 

Location: Buttershaw with travel across Yorkshire region - A full valid EU driving License is required in the role

 

Purpose of the role:

 

The Data Centre Technician is responsible for the effective management of the company Data Centre environments, within the agreed service levels. The key purpose areas are:

 

  • Manage the Data Centre and Computer Room environments to ensure no unplanned unavailability
  • Manage the physical access security to mission critical Data Centre environments.
  • Ensure IT services are operating within agreed SLA / OLA framework

 

Key Accountabilities

 

In the role of Data Centre Technician, you will have the following responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure that all the Data Centres and critical Computer Rooms are operating at the required effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Maintain operational relationships with key suppliers.
  • Understand the Incident Review process ensuring that all reviews are held within the agreed SLA and the learning is embedded across IT
  • Make sure that the key measures for the KPI’s are collated and reported on.
  • Ensure IT Services are operating within agreed SLA / OLA framework

 

Knowledge and Skills Required

 

Essential:

 

  • A full valid EU driving License is required in the role
  • Experience of working within an IT environment with a proven track record of delivering sustainable performance against challenging business targets
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective internal and external relationships to colleagues across the business
  • Knowledge of Data Centres, Computer Rooms and their environments
  • Clear understanding of the ITIL principles
  • An advanced understanding of Incident Management principles
  • Can use incident logging tools and work to SLA’s
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Has Knowledge of install/move/decommissioning processes within a Data Centre environment
  • Has Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
  • Has knowledge of file data management
  • Is able to create documentation where required and share learning with the team
  • Has working knowledge of Data Centre Virtualization (VMWARE)
  • Has Working knowledge of windows server 2012 / 2016
  • Ability to monitor service continuity plans and liaise with other teams to ensure they are up to date
  • Is capable of managing 3rd party contract staff/companies working onsite
  • Has knowledge of Standby Generator maintenance
  • Has knowledge of the environmental controls within the Data Centres and Computer Rooms
  • Contributes to continuous improvement within the team
  • Is able to identify risks and contributes to the department Risk Register
  • Is able to manage minor projects related to the data centres
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to present ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Strong customer service orientation

 

 

Desirable:

 

  • Previous experience in an operational and / or technical lead role in a commercially orientated and / or regulated environment
  • Previous experience gained within the water or waste water sectors or within the broader utilities, process or manufacturing industry sectors
  • Certified Data Centre Technician Professional (CDCTP) qualification (we can offer training for you to attain this).
