Help define the projects that will secure Yorkshire’s water future

This is a rare opportunity to play a leading role in one of the UK water sector’s most significant major projects programmes.

Yorkshire Water is delivering a £2.5bn Direct Procurement for Customers (DPC) portfolio, comprising four major infrastructure projects that will define long-term water resilience for the region.

These are nationally significant, highly regulated projects, delivered through new commercial and delivery models — requiring a different level of engineering leadership.

Why this role matters?

These projects will:

  • secure long-term water resilience for millions of customers
  • shape how major infrastructure is delivered through DPC in the UK
  • attract third-party investment and drive innovation

They are subject to significant regulatory scrutiny from Ofwat and RAPID and must stand up to rigorous technical, commercial and strategic challenge.

This role sits at the heart of that challenge — ensuring engineering solutions are technically sound, investable, and aligned to a new delivery model.

The role

As DPC Engineering Design Manager, you will lead the client-side engineering approach for major infrastructure projects that will define Yorkshire Water’s future.

You will operate as part of an intelligent client organisation, working across engineering, commercial, procurement and regulatory teams to shape solutions from early concept through to market delivery.

This is a role with real strategic influence — shaping how projects are defined, procured and delivered.

What you’ll do

  • Lead engineering strategy and assurance across major DPC projects
  • Shape how projects go to market through outcome-based specifications
  • Challenge and influence the market to deliver best value and performance
  • Act as a key interface between engineering, commercial and procurement
  • Provide engineering leadership in regulatory engagement with Ofwat and RAPID
  • Influence delivery strategy, risk allocation and long-term outcomes
  • Drive innovation, optimisation and continuous improvement

Who we’re looking for

You are an experienced engineering leader who thrives in complex, high-impact environments. You will bring:

  • Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent)
  • Significant engineering design and delivery experience
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong understanding of water treatment / transfer schemes
  • Track record of innovation and performance improvement
  • Strong communication and stakeholder influence skills
  • Experience working to deadlines across multiple deliverables
  • Understanding of quality and engineering assurance processes
  • Experience in major infrastructure, water, utilities or similar regulated sectors
  • Experience in client-side, consultancy or Tier 1 environments
  • Ability to operate across engineering, commercial and procurement
  • A track record of influencing strategic decisions
  • Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders, partners and regulators
  • A focus on long-term value for customers and the environment
  • Full UK driving licence

What makes this different

  • Multi-£bn, multi-AMP infrastructure with regulatory visibility
  • A fundamentally different delivery model through DPC
  • Influence at programme level, not just design
  • Opportunity to help build new client-side capability

Why join us

At Yorkshire Water, we’re not just delivering projects — we’re shaping the future of water infrastructure in the region. This is an opportunity to:

  • work on projects with real strategic importance
  • help transform delivery models in the sector
  • leave a lasting legacy for Yorkshire
