Location: Buttershaw / Hybrid Working (1-2 days office a week – Bradford).
Work type: 1 x Permanent and 1 x 12 month Fixed Term Contract. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
We have an exciting opportunity for two Compliance and Assurance Officers to join the Audit, Risk and Compliance team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. One permanent and one on a 12 month fixed term contract. Could this be you?

Audit, Risk and Compliance team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
As part of the Compliance and Assurance function, which plays a vital part of our second line assurance activities, this role involves conducting compliance monitoring activities—including reviews, audits, and inspections—to ensure adherence to legislation, regulations, ISO standards -Yorkshire Water currently holds certificates for the following ISO standards: ISO9001 quality, ISO14001 environment, ISO55001 asset management and ISO45001 health and safety- and company policies and procedures. It includes producing high-quality reports with actionable recommendations to enhance compliance, sharing findings and trends with key stakeholders and the wider team, and influencing the completion of corrective actions across all organisational levels, including senior leadership. The role also entails testing data and controls within compliance systems, facilitating external audits, representing Yorkshire Water at those external audits, and providing expert advice on compliance and assurance matters to support continuous improvement and regulatory alignment.
Where you fit in:
As our Compliance and Assurance Officer you will:
• Collaborate with colleagues, managers, and senior leaders to deliver the Assurance Delivery Plan and strengthen compliance culture.
• Conduct compliance reviews, inspections, and site visits to evaluate controls and ensure adherence to legislation, regulation, the ISO standards for which Yorkshire Water holds certificates and company policies and procedures.
• Engage with stakeholders to facilitate effective compliance assessments and ensure adequate support for risk evaluation.
• Clearly communicate findings and recommendations, promoting understanding and accountability across all levels of the business.
• Facilitate external audits and represent Yorkshire Water at those audits.
• Contribute to internal reporting for the Audit and Risk Committee and the Board.
• Promote the Compliance Framework and deliver training and awareness sessions to enhance compliance understanding.
• Provide insights on compliance risks and horizon scanning to inform strategic decision-making.
• Work cross-functionally to drive continuous improvement, integration, and collaboration in compliance efforts.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
• Experienced in conducting audits and inspections to assess compliance with legislation, regulation, ISO standards and company policies and procedures.
• A full clean driving licence – to visit our sites across Yorkshire.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and SharePoint, for managing assurance plans, compliance reviews, and documentation.
• Strong ability to interpret complex compliance legislation, regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
• Skilled in writing clear, concise, and grammatically accurate reports and documents.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues at all levels, including senior leaders and external stakeholders.
• Confident in influencing and holding others accountable to deadlines and quality standards, while managing expectations professionally.
• Highly organised with strong time management and project delivery skills, capable of working independently or collaboratively to meet deadlines.
• Demonstrates sound risk assessment capabilities and maintains high standards of confidentiality and customer service.
You will also benefit from having:
• Business knowledge - experience of the water industry or other heavily regulated industry.
• Regulation and compliance experience.
• An internal auditing qualification.
• Basic H&S training.
