Location: Knostrop / Hybrid Working (typically 1 day in the office / week – with extensive travel around the Yorkshire Water region to operational and office sites.
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Solution Development Engineer (Chemical) to join the Engineering Chemical Process Team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

The Engineering function are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
We're a small but expert group of chemical engineers working within Asset Delivery. Our team leads on keeping Yorkshire Water safe and compliant with regulations like DSEAR and COSHH. We carry out detailed site inspections, create compliance documents, and design solutions to fix any issues we find. Our specialist projects team then brings those designs to life.
We also look after the Yorkshire Water Engineering Specification and make sure partner engineers are authorised to carry out specialist work on our behalf.

Where you fit in:
As our Chemical Engineer you will:
- Carrying out and reviewing DSEAR risk assessments, Hazardous Area Classifications, and COSHH risk assessments
- Defining technical scopes of work to support investigations and ensure compliance with legislation
- Reviewing and challenging partner outputs to maintain high standards and drive performance
- Assessing remedial requirements and producing cost-effective process design intent specifications
- Providing technical support and guidance to the internal project delivery team
- Supporting the Principal Engineer in developing the Yorkshire Water Engineering Specification and interpreting industry and national standards
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- A degree in Chemical Engineering
- Experience in chemical process engineering within a process-related environment
- Strong ability to develop and write clear engineering standards and specifications
- Commercial awareness with the ability to balance risk and value
- Proven experience in developing process engineering solutions and translating them into deliverable work specifications
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Physically fit and able to undertake medium-risk confined space entry and work at height (training provided)
You will also benefit from having:
- Training and hands-on experience in Hazardous Area Classification
- Experience in leading hazard studies and safety assessments
- Competence in AutoCAD® for creating and reviewing engineering drawings
