What we do!

Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year, can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it’s so much more than this.

We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire’s water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. Bioresources are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

The Bioresources department manage the largest waste water and sludge treatment sites in Yorkshire Water.

The Bioresources Project Sponsor’s purpose is to support the identification of asset performance risks and the development and delivery of capital and operational solutions to resolve or mitigate service risks through the management of onsite projects via various delivery routes. This involves working closely with operational, maintenance and asset delivery teams within Bioresources and YW Asset Management ensuring assets are delivered on time and to cost as part of a bigger investment programme.

Where Capex interventions are required, Sponsors develop schemes through Concept and Definition and maintain involvement throughout the end to end Delivery Process to ensure the required outcomes are achieved.

This role helps to ensure that we adopt a commercial approach in the delivery of market leading technology onto our sites which are safe to operate, maintain and meet technical requirements, through market optioneering, and then integrate the new assets smoothly into current treatment facilities.

The role is a key part of the Bioresource Asset Team and requires a technical understanding of the sludge treatment asset base to ensure that we are delivering the right outcome for the business and the company, driving commercially advantageous decision making and enhancing Yorkshire Water’s Bioresources performance to minimise TOTEX costs and provide the best value to our customers against the changing regulatory landscape.

The role is accountable for the realisation of performance outcomes and benefits from any investment and provides the governance link between the organisation’s senior managers and the management of each project.
