Location: Regionally based, with a mix of home working and working from one of our regional offices. There will be an expectation to visit sites across the Yorkshire region as and when needed, therefore a full valid UK driving licence (with no more than 6 points) is an essential requirement for this role.
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, expectation to participate in a standby rota

Energy generation has always been an important focus for Bioresources but with new assets coming online and electricity being more valuable than ever, the ability to generate energy as per a long-term plan is vital.
This role, reporting directly to the Head of Bioresources and becoming a key role on the management team will bring together energy generation expertise to embed new business processes, Improve existing processes, work with colleagues across Yorkshire Water to develop a production mentality and to continually improve performance of key contractors.
The role will be responsible for all sludge logistics movements across Yorkshire with key drivers on pollution avoidance across the process sites ensuring the right quality & quantity is delivered to the bio resources sites, to gain maximum generation benefit at the right cost per tonne of dry solid (tds).
The role will ensure that through energy generation the Bioresources price control continues to Improve Its comparative efficiency performance and supports the energy strategy of delivering 40% self-generation by 2028.
As well as Improving performance through our CHP engines It will ensure that future gas to grid projects and the YW solar programme delivers to plan.
Where You Fit
In this role, you’ll be right at the heart of our Bioresources Management Team, helping us look after a huge amount of commercial value. You’ll take the lead on our in‑year CHP generation performance and our tankering sludge logistics — together worth around £50 million a year — and you’ll make sure we’re getting the very best out of them.
You’ll drive our generation and logistics improvement plan forward, keeping things on track and making sure every part of it delivers real results. You’ll work closely with our key contractors, holding them to account, making sure KPIs are met, and championing service improvements wherever needed.
You’ll team up with colleagues across commercial, asset management and procurement to bring new projects to life and ensure they land smoothly. We’ll look to you to spot new opportunities for us to work smarter, be more efficient and boost performance.
Part of your role will also be to challenge the wider team, helping us build a strong production‑focused mindset. You’ll keep the wider business updated on progress with key initiatives, and you’ll support operational sites where you can make a real difference to generation performance.
You’ll play an important part in making sure our contracts are delivering full value, and your understanding of commercial arrangements will help keep us on the right track. Alongside this, you’ll show strong H&S leadership, support your people as a leader, manage opex budgets, and bring a sound technical grounding in wastewater and sludge treatment.
What skills, experience and qualifications you will need:
- Demonstrable experience in leading a team.
- Demonstrates strong H&S leadership, including taking part in management site visits.
- A proven record of continuously improving performance and business processes.
- Experience working with multiple teams and stakeholders to review, simplify and improve how things are done.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple business units.

You will also benefit from having:
- Experience working within a regulated water company.
- Established network within wastewater and/or renewable energy sectors.
- Experience in the renewable energy industry.
- Working knowledge of water regulation.
- Logistics experience within the wastewater industry.
- Mechanical, electrical or instrumentation knowledge.
- End‑to‑end understanding of sludge treatment facilities.
- Commercial and contractual experience.
- Knowledge of CHP, thickening and dewatering principles.
