Location: Regionally based, this is a flexible hybrid arrangement. Our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 2-3 office or on-site days per week for this role. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our offices are open Monday-Friday during working hours.  

 

Working Hours: Permanent.  37 hours per week Monday to Friday.

The Asset Manager (Storm Alliance) is responsible for the asset management of our storm overflows in both the network and the wastewater treatment works.  This involves conducting asset investigations, planning sustainable solutions, and supporting the delivery of interventions. This role will be a critical partner in the Storm Overflow Alliance partnership, delivering over £1bn of capital investment in AMP8. The role emphasizes health and safety excellence, regulatory and statutory compliance, risk management, and the application of innovative technologies. Additionally, the Asset Manager focuses on achieving operational and totex efficiency, providing strategic clarity and direction, and outperforming business plan targets. This position is crucial for aligning asset performance with regulatory standards while driving innovation and efficiency

As our Asset Manager (Storm Alliance) you will:

 

Role Specific Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for performance levels in wastewater treatment, terminal pumping, non-bioresource sludge assets, wastewater network, pumping, and overflows.
  • Creating annual Capex investment plans and determining associated performance rewards/penalties.
  • Owning and planning interventions to achieve asset health and performance measures.
  • Leading and coaching a team to find optimal solutions and demonstrating financial value.
  • Managing operational asset performance, identifying necessary actions.
  • Promoting schemes within the Alliance team.
  • Maintaining relationships with regulatory bodies like the Environment Agency, CC Water, and OFWAT.
  • Driving innovation for environmental and customer benefits.

 

Generic Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the development of a 5-year Department Business Plan and annual Functional Business Plans.
  • Translating Department Strategy into Functional Strategy.
  • Managing business process activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory obligations, including Health & Safety.
  • Managing risks to strategic business objectives and maintaining a Strategic Risk Register.
  • Developing asset plans with asset criticality in partnership with the Strategic Planning Partner.
  • Challenging asset standards and specifications where performance is lacking.
  • Monitoring asset performance and highlighting risks to service and outputs.
  • Demonstrating company values, ethical standards, and responsible leadership.
  • Providing active and visible leadership, engaging colleagues, and promoting a safety-conscious culture.
  • Supporting Performance Hubs and Delivery Assurance Groups.
  • Conducting monthly Health and Safety leadership visits.
  • Addressing unacceptable or poor performance consistently and rigorously.

 

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Proven leadership skills with experience in managing large technical teams and driving organisational change.
  • Degree in a science or engineering discipline, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of asset management, including risk management.
  • Ability to adopt a holistic approach to company risk and performance.
  • Highly developed coaching skills for effective people management.
  • Strategic thinker with experience in establishing clear strategic direction and implementing plans.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to challenge and influence senior leaders (Director level/Head of Department/General Manager level).
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in creating complex and ambitious business cases.
  • Demonstrated ability to build high performing, engaged, and capable teams.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and leverage value from an extensive internal and external network.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement of business processes to ensure performance data and asset risks are easily identified.
  • Understanding of key lead indicators for asset performance across the entire asset base.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Highest standards of integrity and ethics.
  • Awareness of the Final Business Plan and the allocation of funding to achieve defined outputs.
