Salary & Benefits: Salary Range £26,678 - £33,348 per annum dependent on experience. Benefits include company pension, quarterly performance related bonus and 25 days annual leave.

 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Scientist to join our water quality team within Service Delivery based in York.

 

What will the role involve?

 

This is a vital role, as you will be providing the best customer service and resolution to water quality related issues. You will optimise, assets, systems, processes and procedures at both water distribution and production sites in regards water quality performance and protection of public health at all times. You will work towards minimising water quality related customer contacts and help deliver our vision of taking responsibility for the water environment for good.

 

You will lead a co-ordinated, planned and effective response to water quality incidents across the business and ensure that processes, procedures are followed and agreed actions or requirements are implemented. You will prepare reports for submission to our Regulators/Senior Managers. You will undertake the role of water quality consultant on a 1 week in 5 basis providing water quality support within the team and across the business and to external stakeholders. You will support and deliver key initiatives and projects in relation to Water Quality Compliance, Customer Contacts, Network, Production and Capital support.


Once fully trained you will be part of the water quality standby rota on a 1 week in 7 frequency. Providing expert support and advice on behalf of the Water Quality Manager to Field Operations, Asset Management, the Duty Manger and the wider business as required.

 

What skills are we looking for?

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of water quality processes and regulatory obligations, water treatment and distribution processes. You will be able to deal with incidents and events to protect public health and to minimise impacts on water quality compliance.


You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills this includes both written report writing and verbally. You will be able to solve problems often under pressure and to deadlines. You will have strong analytical skills and be able to fault find processes and systems. You will be able to handle large amounts of diverse data and spot potential risks to compliance. You will have a can-do attitude with not only an ability to plan for the future but a capability to deal effectively with the unforeseen. 


You will have excellent influencing and networking skills to build relationships with key stakeholders at all levels within Yorkshire Water, service partner organisations and with external key stakeholders. You will consider health and safety at all times and support a zero accident culture. You will be comfortable using a range of IT systems.
