Yorkshire Water manages the collection, treatment and distribution of water around the Yorkshire region, supplying around 1.24 billion litres of drinking water each day – that’s a lot of water!

At the same time we also collect, treat and dispose of approximately one billion litres of waste water safely back into the environment.

But we’re about much more than just water and sewerage services and our people work across a wide range of areas including IT, Finance and Regulation, HR and Health & Safety.

We are currently recruiting for Engineering apprentices in the following areas –
Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds, Harrogate & Scarborough.


As a Yorkshire Water apprentice, you will also be expected to gain technical skills and expertise, as well as developing your personal and business competencies.

What do we do?

Within the Engineering Reliability Delivery Team, we carry out reactive (breakdown) and planned maintenance to a wide variety of assets (equipment), to ensure the continuous running of assets and to comply with our regulatory compliance requirements for both clean and waste water functions.

Health and Safety is paramount within the company and we focus on prevention of accidents, always maintaining a safe working environment for ourselves and others.


What we expect from you?


  • Be prepared to attend college to complete all academic elements of the Apprenticeship Programme.
  • To complete all work task to the best of your ability and in accordance with our  policies and procedures and observe the terms and conditions of employment.
  • To be an active member of the Yorkshire Water Apprentice Group, working co-operatively with other apprentices and always setting excellent standards for yourself and others
  • At all times to behave in a safe and responsible manner and in accordance with the Health and Safety and Equality legislation relating to the individual responsibilities and to promote and act in the Employer’s best interests.
  • Be self-motivated, always willing to learn new skills and take pride in everything you do.
  • It will be expected that you hold a full valid EU driving licence or to be working towards with 12 months of appointment.


What Qualifications can I gain?

This framework lasts up to 48 months and includes college-based and work-based qualifications. 

The framework combines the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations
  • EAL Level 3 Diploma in Maintenance Engineering Technology (Progressive) (electrical and Mechanical – 16 units!!)
  • VQ level 3 in Maintenance Systems
  • Advanced units in Maths and science
  • The option to study  a HNC in either Instrumentation(ICA), Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • External and Internal Health and Safety Training
  • External and internal key skills training


What are the Requirements?

You must be able to satisfy the following requirements:

    • You must have or be expecting at least 5 GCSE A*- C/ 4-9 including English Language, Maths and Science to satisfy the requirements of our training provider
    • Willingness to live away for 1 year on a residential college training programme in Hull
    • A fundamental aspect of this role will be the ability to distinguish the colour of wires, therefore please advise us on your application form if you are registered colour blind.
    • Passionate and enthusiastic about Engineering as a long-term career.
