Technical Specialist - Wastewater Networks (Sewerage)

 

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience

 

Location: Buttershaw, Bradford with home working until April 2021 due to Covid 19

 

Purpose of the role

 

  • Deliver world class asset and operational excellence across wastewater networks and SuDS. 
  • Ensure health and safety excellence; regulatory compliance; operational integrity and resilience; operational efficiency and business plan out-performance by providing technical expertise to the operational and planning teams when required.
  • Provide specialist wastewater networks expertise.
  • Utilising own experience to make key decisions on design, construction, operation and maintenance to adequately balance the needs for performance and innovation within an agreed level of risk.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise on matters relating to the construction (buildability), operation and maintenance of the wastewater network.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

Some of the key responsibilities you will have will include but are not limited to:

 

  • Work as part of the team to deliver excellent performance by understanding how individual performance links into achieving the team’s wider objectives.
  • Responsible for the creation, maintenance and implementation of wastewater network standards, policies, procedures and asset related network business processes.
  • Develop internal and external (Strategic Planning Partner, Developers) relationships to facilitate the creation of wastewater network technical documentation, enabling you to lead and influence development with technical experts.
  • Use experience and knowledge of SUDS and sewerage assets to work with Modelling and Solution Development teams to drive best practice and optimal solutions.
  • You will provide technical expertise and support on matters related to the operation, maintenance and management of the wastewater network.
  • Drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management and control of work and ensure compliance with the YW Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policies.
  • Understand risks through process or maintenance shortfalls and develop optimisation and recovery plans to ensure stable and compliant performance.
  • Support the delivery of new capital works, lead design development of solutions and provide expertise for installation and commissioning.
  • Demonstrate relentless drive, energy and determination to deliver sustainable out-performance for YW that rigorously achieves our vision to be clearly the best against demanding competitive industry benchmarks.
  • Ensure that robust financial management and commercial awareness form the foundation of all business decisions.
  • Understand and develop best practice and innovation supported with measuring and monitoring the implementation of new ideas.

 

 

Knowledge and Skills Required

 

 

Essential

 

  • You will be qualified to degree standard in an engineering or scientific discipline with some experience within a wastewater networks technical discipline(s), or be able to demonstrate you have gained significant experience within a wastewater networks technical discipline(s).
  • Experience of developing and maintaining technical standard, policies and procedures using business processes.
  • You will be able to lead and influence in complex environments working with technical experts and communicate complicated technical concepts.
  • You will be able to create compelling business cases to challenge standards, policies and procedures to embed change and influencing culture and behaviours across operational teams.
  • Significant/Expert technical knowledge of wastewater networks, techniques and initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of Asset Management principles.
  • Detailed understanding of the water regulation regime in the UK.
  • Experience of working with a team to deliver significant projects in short timeframes.
  • Understanding of business targets and priorities and how the relevant asset groups contribute to this.
  • Develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships.
  • Lead and influence in complex environments working with technical experts and communicate complicated technical concepts.
  • Ability to work with a range of subject matter experts and challenge where appropriate.
  • Ability to analyse large data sets and technical documentation to critically evaluate information and inform decision making.
  • Communicate confidently and establish trust with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Clearly demonstrate Yorkshire Water company values and behaviours.
  • Current full, clean driving licence and flexibility to travel across the Yorkshire region.

 

Desirable

 

  • Chartered or holding full membership of an appropriate professional body e.g. CIWEM, ICE, CEng, CSci, CEnv.
  • Experience of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets.
  • Previous experience in a commercially orientated and/or regulated environment.
  • Previous experience gained within the wastewater infrastructure sector or within the broader urban drainage, civil engineering, utilities, or manufacturing industry sectors.
  • Knowledge and understanding of asset management principles and processes.
