What will the role involve?

 

You will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining processes and plans that deliver our asset management strategy, policy and objectives in an allocated wholesale business área (Waste Water Treatment and Bioresources) over the next 25 years. 
 

With significant responsibility for developing business cases and securing investment of over £50m per request, you will be accountable for analysing proposed investment opportunities in line with existing regulatory frameworks, ensuring any proposals meet our strategic direction. As our Strategic Asset Planner, you will play a key part in developing the next Strategic Business Plan through the PR24 and PR29 process, in an increasingly complex and challenging regulatory environment, providing technical expertise in the development of waste water treatment solutions to meet future quality and growth obligations.
 

Working with other technical specialists across the business, you will provide specialist advice and lead projects to assess, inform and influence the likelihood and scale of benefits obtained from future investment scenarios.  You will also:
 

•    Undertake investment appraisals with senior managers, ranging in scope from individual assets to wider strategic plans for the water and wastewater asset base
•    Carry out strategic asset management planning, understanding the relationship between expenditure, assets and service in the allocated business area
•    Develop technical solutions within the company process selection framework
•    Understand and construct investment business cases using net benefit analysis i.e. optimising programmes of investment through linking risk, cost and customer priorities and ensuring they are defensible in audits
•    Conduct investment appraisal and advice for Yorkshire Water assets, including short, medium and long term scenario planning, providing regulatory advice in relation to proposed capital investments
•    Perform Quality Assurance Challenges on Programme Planning EDA data in line with proposed service levels for both delivery and strategic purposes
•    Identify how new innovation could change the viability and benefits of investment scenarios, based on known technology and techniques
•    Undertake technical analysis of new or amended legislation, providing subsequent stakeholder support to identify how this could impact/support the viability of future investment scenarios
•    Identify, analyse and test developments to our Asset Deterioration modelling systems (NITRO and IDET), in addition to other models and data capture processes to improve reliability and performance

 

What skills are we looking for? 

 

You will hold a degree in a relative quantitative discipline and/or have demonstrable experience in a similar role, with good working knowledge of waste water treatment processes. With proven experience of Strategic Business or Investment Planning within a commercially orientated/regulated industry, or equivalent, you will also:

 

•    Be competent in the interpretation and analysis of policy and legislation, able to compile, analyse and interpret complex data
•    Waste Water Treatment and Sludge process expertise 
•    Adept in the use of excel spreadsheets, using advanced analytical techniques to plan strategically and solve problems
•    Be self-driven, able to identify and source data and information to support analysis
•    Have demonstrable experience of report and presentation writing, communicating ideas and concepts across the business to a variety of audiences
•    Be experienced in supporting and embedding change, able to influence others and drive the right culture and behaviours, engaging people at all levels
•    Be able to build, develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, both internally and externally
•    Be able to manage conflicting priorities and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders
•    Network, collaborate with and influence a team of specialists.
