Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Storage & Backup

  

Salary: £41,535 to £51,918 dependent on experience + pension + 25 days holiday

Location: Bradford

 

 

Purpose of the role

 

The purpose of the Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Storage) is to develop and maintain effective efficient infrastructure services used for the delivery of IT storage solutions across all areas of the Kelda Group. Defining best practice use of the infrastructure services, managing detailed infrastructure risks and implementing associated mitigating controls, identifying opportunities to innovate through the existing infrastructure, and contributing to the overall infrastructure strategy enhancing or protecting value and meeting Regulatory and operational requirements. 

They will provide 24/7 cover as part of a standby rota.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

 

Implementing, maintaining, upgrading and supporting (3rd Line) the existing Storage Infrastructure in line with the defined IT business plan and agreed patching and maintenance schedules.

•            Contributing to the IT standards and governing adherence to them.

•            Proactively lead and embed change within the use of the storage and backup infrastructure technologies.

•            Provide assistance to Operations and Support teams with SAMANAGE support tickets in standard working hours if and when necessary.

 

Perform a senior engineering role on storage technology projects delivering or consuming infrastructure, being accountable for:

  •               Identifying technical tasks and providing realistic estimates.
  •               Operating in the agreed development methodology.
  •               Adhering to IT process throughout the project delivery lifecycle.
  •               Creating high quality detailed technical designs to support overall technical solution in line with strategies and roadmaps, ensuring non-functional requirements are catered for.
  •               Adhering to all approved technical standards.
  •               Maintain key relationships with key partners / suppliers.

    • Scalable, robust and reliable, fit for purpose and fit for use.
    • Secure in nature – from a Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability perspective.
    • Compliant with legal requirements of licensing in accordance with direction from the Business Support Group, data protection, Regulation of Investigatory Powers act.
    • Tested to relevant guidelines and technically fit for purpose, including maintainability and driving for the lowest possible total cost of ownership.
    • To a high technical standard and adhere to preferred technology architectures and integrate into end-to-end solutions.

 

 

Knowledge and Skills Required:

 

 

Essential:

 

  • Experience of build, delivery and administration of robust and reliable infrastructure services within a complex and varied environment, with a proven track record of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets, in one or more of the following technical disciplines:
  • Storage Technologies  Network Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Area Networks SAN attached, Fibre Channel Networks, Block Storage, File Storage, Object Storage, Snapshot Technologies.
  • Backup Technologies (client and server architectures and solutions, Virtual Tape Libraries) Knowledge of Storage Technology Tooling including IBM Spectrum Protect, Spectrum Protect Plus, Tivoli storage manager, Backup growth requirements in line with operational need)
  • Design, configuration, deployment and troubleshooting of client builds (preferably following both manual and automated processes) from bare metal to end solution
  • Excellent knowledge of integration with various infrastructures within an enterprise organisation.
  • Knowledge and capability of delivering documentation, testing and release management principles.

•            Knowledge/Experience of VMWARE Product Suite

•            Knowledge / Experience of Microsoft Active Directory (Multi Tier Domain)

•            Knowledge/Experience of Microsoft SQL Server, IIS, SCCM

•            Scripting Technologies

•            Understanding of a wide range of storage technologies

•            Managing Certificates Internal / External

•            Windows Server 2008 R2 – 2016

•            Knowledge Enterprise Networks and TCPIP

•            O365 Active Directory Integration
