Yorkshire Water’s Technology function is undergoing a period of exciting transformation and seeks to appoint a highly experienced Lead Infrastructure Solutions Architect into a recently reshaped Enterprise Architecture Team. The team is highly energised, experienced and now looks to appoint a number of likeminded individuals. 

 

The team is in the initial stages of formulating its target architectures to modernise the IT landscape in response to a series of exciting business strategies that are set to fundamentally transform the organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead, define and shape the technology strategy within the architectural domains of Integration, Infrastructure, Security and Data.

 

 

What do we need?

 

 

We are looking for a Lead Infrastructure Solution Architect with a broad understanding of the IT infrastructure landscape which ideally will include all/most of the following:

 

  • Platforms
  • Service Storage & Backups
  • Networking & Telecomms
  • Servers
  • Data Centres

You may have more experience in one of the above domains but you will also have a decent understanding in the rest of the technology areas. You are experienced at taking an enterprise architecture and making it a reality.

We need Individuals that possess a great blend of business and technical knowledge and have extensive experience within their domain and can demonstrate great communication and leadership qualities.

 

You’ll also have proven results in application of technology to drive sustainable business performance improvements and the ability to articulate strategic IT direction into actionable principles, roadmaps, patterns and reference architectures.

 

Experience of working within UK water, energy utilities or similar regulated industries would be desirable but most importantly we want Individuals who want to get things done and be a key part of providing a vital service used by everyone in Yorkshire.

 

 

Purpose of the role

 

 

Day to day, the successful applicants will be responsible for definition and evolution of IT strategies within a particular domain. You will be expected to communicate effectively with senior business colleagues as well as Solution Architects and the broader Technology Team. Your experience, and diverse industry knowledge will truly lead and drive us forwards.

 

You will be comfortable working in both ambiguity and detail, often leading the strategy on complex technical solutions that are in need of transformation. You will be expected to establish new design standards, patterns and various other artefacts within your area of specialism. You will proactively monitor new and emerging technologies ensuring your strategies are current and well aligned to industry standards.

 

 

Key Accountabilities

 

 

Some of the key responsibilities you will have will include but are not limited to:

 

  • Work with current Solution Architects and broader Technology teams to form understanding of baseline position within own domain.
  • Work with senior business personnel to understand or elicit strategic business requirements.
  • Work alongside equivalent Lead Solution Architects to ensure all domain strategies are fully aligned.
  • Align with Enterprise Architecture’s strategies and overall vision, ensuring underlying strategies contribute towards this and make it a reality.  
  • Develop strategies, roadmaps and all associated artefacts to describe the target state including the activities and investment needed to get there.
  • Consult with third parties to externally validate strategies, ensuring they are fit for purpose and are industry aligned.
  • Sponsor and guide delivery of the resulting programmes of work, ensuring adherence to the specified architecture.
  • Use knowledge and experience to evangelise strategies, overcome technical complexities and provide leadership to both architects and delivery teams.
