Lead Electrical Design Engineer

 

Salary:     £43 973 to £54 968 (depending on experience) + Bonus + 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays + pension + Life assurance

 

Location:     Buttershaw, Bradford (hybrid working – minimum 1 day per week in the office)

 

Purpose of the role

 

Yorkshire Water is looking for a Lead Electrical Design Engineer in wastewater and water treatment to join their Engineering Design team.

Working for a client organisation you will work closely with a team of professional process, civil and mechanical design engineers on feasibility studies and optioneering to come up with the most economical design solution. The studies will include looking at innovation in the solution and new processes from the supply chain.

The Lead Design Engineer will be responsible for the preparation of in-house designs. The role will involve preparing electrical designs and supporting the development of standard designs. The Lead Design Engineer will report to the Senior Design Engineer.

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • As part of a multi-disciplinary engineering design team, carry out engineering design work as necessary on selected schemes.
  • Review engineering design documents prepared by the strategic planning partner at outline design and capital delivery partners at tender and construction design.
  • Provide engineering support from project definition through to detailed design and commissioning via design meetings, value engineering meetings, Hazard studies and site visits.
  • Develop technically and economically proficient engineering solutions against a TOTEX and whole life cycle process (cost & carbon).
  • Liaise with suppliers, technical planning and procurement personnel on design and specification of equipment and construction activities in order to increase the quality and number of Standard Designs and percentage Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA).
  • Drive innovation and engineering excellence into designs.
  • Drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety in design, risk management and ensure compliance with the YW Safety Policy.

 

 

Knowledge and Skills Required

 

Essential

 

  • A degree level qualification (or equivalent) in engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Significant engineering design experience in the water industry.
  • Experience of working in a multi-discipline design team.
  • A strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts into more readily understood information suitable for a wider business audience, able to influence people across multifunctional teams throughout the business.
  • Experience of working on multiple deliverables to project deadlines.
  • Experience in the application of quality procedures and document control in engineering design.
  • Full valid UK driving license.
