Lawyer – Litigation

12-month Fixed Term Contract

Starting 1st October

 

 

Salary & benefits:  Up to £32,500 dependent on experience + 25 days annual leave + pension + quarterly performance related bonus.

Location: Based in Bradford, but you will be required to attend our Leeds offices and, from time to time, other offices across the region.

Currently home working due to Covid 19

 

 

Please note that although this role is a full-time role, we are open to application from candidates that are confident in their ability to condense their working week to 3 – 4 days per week

 

 

What will the role involve?

You will undertake a broad range of litigation work and advise on various matters to meet the needs of Yorkshire Water and other companies within the Kelda Group.  You will do this as part of the litigation legal team of three people, and as part of broader legal team of 15.

You will manage a case load of litigation / advice files of varying complexity and value and will ensure that requests for legal advice from across the entire Kelda Group are dealt with in a timely and accurate manner.

You will provide legal advice on a wide range of contentious issues including civil claims, criminal matters, and other general disputes as they arise.

You will be able to balance the legal constraints of our business with the need for commercial solutions to drive the best results for our colleagues across the Group.  You will shape and influence policy across the Kelda Group at all levels.  In doing so, you will always demonstrate a commitment to the company’s values and behaviours.

By working closely with colleagues from across the Kelda Group you will be a credible advisor who can provide coherent, accurate and timely legal advice which demonstrates an understanding of our operational needs and our strategic direction.  

 

 

 

 

What skills are we looking for?

You will be a paralegal with suitable experience, a qualified legal executive, solicitor or equivalent.

You will already be able to demonstrate a solid understanding of civil litigation, and ideally you will have experience in advising clients on a wide range of litigious issues. 

As an individual, you will have the ability to:

  • display exceptional communication skill, both oral and written
  • deliver high quality and timely legal and litigation advice to colleagues across all parts of Yorkshire Water and the Kelda Group
  • build and maintain strong and effective working relationships with key departments
  • learn about new and developing areas of law quickly, and provide credible advice to our colleagues
  • convey complex principles and concepts (verbally and in writing) that can be tailored to different audiences, in a way that instils confidence in the recipient and enhances the credibility of the legal team
  • display commercial awareness in the provision of legal and litigation advice.

Having an interest in or experience of any of the following is advantageous but not essential:

  • personal injury
  • criminal litigation (both prosecuting and / or defending)
  • data protection
  • employment law
  • Environment Information Regulations 2004
  • The Water Industry Act 1991

A full valid EU driving licence is essential as you will be required to attend meetings at various locations within the Yorkshire region.
