Information Security Engineer

 

Salary: £26,895 to £33,619 + Pension + 25 days holiday
 
Location: Working from home during Covid & thereafter Bradford with flexible/remote working arrangements

 

 

Purpose of the role:

 

In this role you will be working with colleagues across the organisation to identify and remediate threats and vulnerabilities, working with the Security Operations Centre to respond to incidents and identifying risks in our supply chain.  You will also work on tuning our security tooling and developing new playbooks.


Working as a small team of Information Security Engineer’s you will administer, assure and maintain the technical information security controls within Yorkshire Water, helping to maintain our compliance with regulation.


What will the role involve?

 

•    Utilising relevant security tools to assess and provide solutions you will take the lead role in the investigation of security incidents from a technical perspective. 


•    Using the security tools within Yorkshire Water to provide a pro-active vulnerability and assessment service, escalating where necessary to the Information Security Manager. 


•    Ensuring that all work is accurately recorded and tracked to enable KPI reporting on security incidents within the business. 


•    Provide proportionate and relevant  technical security advice and guidance to non-security professionals across  the business. Advice such as; 
o    Penetration testing and vulnerability scanning as part of the project lifecycle.
o    Security due diligence of suppliers and ongoing assessments.
o    Embedding vulnerability scanning where appropriate within the IT department, for example within software development or server deployment. 


•    Provide proportionate and technical security advice and guidance to the members of the team specialising in governance to aid with:
o    The administration and maintenance of the ISMS.
o     The completion and  maintenance of   necessary Governance documentation and records (DPIA, Security Review Form, audit spreadsheets)


•    In order to provide regulatory and legislative assurances as part of the ISMS you will be required to own or assist, where appropriate, sections of the internal and external audit cycles that take place at Yorkshire Water. 


•    Provide technical risk assessment information to the Information Security Manager to support the  information security risk register. 


    
What skills are we looking for?

 

•    An understanding of information security at a practical level.


•    Broad understanding of current IS technologies, vulnerabilities, exploits, exposures and malicious behaviours


•    Broad experience of cyber security tools


•    Broad knowledge of Information Security best practices.


•    Broad knowledge of IT systems and technologies. 


•    Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.


•    Highly effective and creative problem-solving skills.


•    Ability to assess the impact and effect that new Systems, applications, external connections and new suppliers.
