Data Scientist
Salary & Benefits: £33,570 - £41,963 per annum dependent on experience + attractive pension + 25 days holiday
Location: Bradford, with flexible/remote working arrangements & the role may involve occasional travel to sites in Yorkshire
We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist to join our Data Science team at Yorkshire Water. We are open to considering someone from an analytical/commercial background or from a PhD/academic background who can apply their skills in a business environment.
What will your role involve?
You will play a key role within the Data Science team by developing analytical solutions that enhance the understanding of our assets and processes. The outputs of these analyses will inform the operation of our assets within Service Delivery (Operations) and the solutions delivered through our capital programme. You will act as an analytical expert working as part of business-wide groups that ensure the delivery of regulatory and customer commitments.
Some of the key responsibilities of the role are outlined below:
- Identifying the relationships between assets, service, risk and cost to produce robust business cases, both proactively and in response to business needs
- Devising innovative solutions through the application of wide-ranging analytical and statistical techniques
- Developing key indicators which forecast risks and identify opportunities in respect of regulatory and customer commitments
- Working closely with colleagues across the business to inform capital and revenue interventions
- Embedding the outputs of analytical solutions within the business to enhance the way we manage our assets and support the delivery of performance and customer commitments
- Maintaining & promoting a culture of excellent Health, Safety & Wellbeing
What skills are we looking for?
Strong analytical, statistical and data processing skills are essential. Experience in the application of these skills in a commercial environment to understand business performance & risk would be advantageous.
Successful candidates must be highly proficient in the use of Microsoft applications, including Excel and PowerPoint, with knowledge of techniques utilising modelling languages (R, Python etc.) being highly desirable.
Industry/sector experience is desirable.
Good communication skills are essential.
Successful candidate must have a valid UK Driving Licence
The successful candidate must be able to thrive as part of multi-discipline working groups and be confident in taking a leading role within such groups to ensure the delivery of outputs against a backdrop of competing priorities and pressures. As such strong influencing, communication and presenting skills are essential.
